Nebras- ka Medical Center falls under the umbrella of Nebraska Medicine and serves as the teaching hospital for UNMC. e medical center, which is U.S. News & World Report's top Nebraska hospital, represents more than 1,000 physicians. Nebraska Medicine received the National Consumer Choice Award for the past 13 years and in 2016 the academic medi- cal center received the Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD Quality Leadership Award from Vizient. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (New York City). A merger between e New York Hospital and e Presbyterian Hospital in 1998 created NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Ranked No. 1 among New York City hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has about 2,600 beds and more than 6,500 affiliated physicians. e hos- pital encompasses six campuses, including 738-bed Columbia Universi- ty Medical Center and 862-bed Weill Cornell Medical Center. Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago). In 1972, the consolida- tion of Passavant Memorial and Wesley Memorial created the teaching hospital for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine: Northwestern Memorial Hospital. e hospital houses 894 beds and in- cludes the Prentice Women's Hospital, offering a slew of women's health services from gynecologic and pregnancy care to menopause and bone health. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is the No. 1 hospital in Illinois, based on U.S. News & World Report 2016-17 rankings. NYU Langone Medical Center (New York City). NYU Langone Med- ical Center is an academic medical center consisting of five inpatient locations, including Tisch Hospital and the Hospital for Joint Diseas- es. NYU Langone also includes the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, Neuroscience Institute and Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine. e hospital hosts the annual Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures Gala and in 2017 the event raised $4.7 million to support epi- lepsy research and new therapies. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 2 among New York hospitals. Ochsner Medical Center (New Orleans). Ochsner Medical includes the Ochsner Cancer Institute, Ochsner Multi-Organ Transplant Center and Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute. e medical center is among six global training sites for robotic surgery, and the hospital's physicians performed the Gulf South's first in-utero surgery in 2013. U.S. News & World Report ranked Ochsner Medical Center the No. 1 Louisiana hos- pital in its 2016-17 rankings. OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital. Opened in 2008, Dublin Methodist Hospital was designed to emphasize the patient experience. e hospital's rooops and courtyards feature 13 gardens, and patients enjoy private rooms to reduce stress and limit infections. e 80-bed facility has eight operating rooms as well as a maternity center, labor and delivery unit; a heart failure clinic; and heart and vascular diagnostic catheterization lab. Dublin Methodist is a part of OhioHealth, which has served central Ohioans since 1891. Oregon Health & Science University Hospital (Portland). e Oregon Health & Science University Hospital opened in 1973 as part of OHSU, which includes a Level I trauma center and a Center for Women's Health that is among the 20 national Centers of Excellence in the specialty. OHSU, which is Oregon's only academic health center, also features the Knight Cancer Institute and is the only location in the state where adults and children can receive bone marrow transplants. U.S. News & World Report ranked the 576-bed hospital No. 1 in Oregon for 2016-17. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services (Colorado Springs, Colo.). e Sisters of Francis and the Sisters of Charity founded Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, which is now part of Centennial, Colo.-based Centu- ra Health. Penrose-St. Francis, which includes Penrose Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center, has 522 licensed beds and 978 affiliated phy- sicians. e acute care facility includes Penrose Cancer Center and St. Francis Medical Center, which features a Level IIIA neonatal intensive care unit and a Level III trauma center. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 4 in the state for 2016-17. Poudre Valley Hospital (Fort Collins, Colo.). Founded in 1925, the hospital became a member of Denver-based University of Colorado Health in 2012. Poudre Valley Hospital, which is a Level III trauma center, serves patients in northern Colorado, southern Wyoming and western Nebraska. U.S. News & World Report ranks the 270-bed regional medical center No. 5 among Colorado hospitals for 2016-17. Providence Portland (Ore.) Medical Center. e 483-licensed bed medical center is a part of Providence Health & Services, a nonprof- it, Catholic health system based in Renton, Wash. e medical center's Center for Advanced Heart Disease for Clinicians treats patients with severe heart failure. U.S. News & World Report ranked the medical cen- ter No. 2 in the state in its 2016-17 rankings. Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). Rush University Medi- cal Center, a nonprofit academic medical center, houses 664 beds and employs more than 800 healthcare providers. In 1837, Rush Medical College became Chicago's first school of medicine. U.S. News & World Report ranked Rush No. 2 in Illinois in its 2016-17 rankings. Sanford USD Medical Center (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Sanford USD Med- ical Center, a part of Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health, serves as the teaching hospital for the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota. e medical center, which has a Level II trauma emer- gency care center, holds 545 beds and employs 4,000 people. Sanford USD ranked No. 1 in South Dakota on the U.S. News & World Report 2016-17 rankings. Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (Boise, Idaho). Established in 1894 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Saint Alphonsus Regional Med- ical Center provides care to people in southwest Idaho, eastern Oregon and northern Nevada. e 381-bed hospital installed Idaho's first X-ray equipment in 1900, and continues to be on the frontline of technologi- cal innovation with its Virtual Monitoring & Care initiatives connecting rural patients with providers. U.S. News & World Report ranked Saint Alphonsus the No. 3 hospital in Idaho for 2016-17. Sanford Medical Center (Bismarck, N.D.). A part of Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health, Sanford Medical Center holds 223 beds and is a Level II emergency and trauma center. e medical center provides care to resi- dents in the upper Midwest, including same-day surgery, cancer treatment and rehabilitation services. Sanford Medical Center ranked No. 1 in North Dakota on the U.S. News & World Report 2016-17 hospital rankings. Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Health Care System. Sarasota Memorial was founded in 1925 and features obstetrical services, pediatrics, a Level III neonatal intensive care and a Level II trauma center. It is accredited for comprehensive rehabilitation and specialty stroke programs by the Com- mission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System employs more than 800 physicians and holds 819 beds. Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (Calif.). Founded in 1924 by Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla now has 444 li- censed beds, a Level II trauma center and 24-hour emergency services. Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla represents the first San Diego hospi- tal to earn Magnet Hospital designation by the American Nursing Asso- ciation for excellence in patient care.
