Houston Methodist Hospital is the flag- ship hospital of Houston Methodist, which includes six community hospitals. e hospital has six multidisciplinary centers of excellence and 2,165 operating beds. U.S. News & World Report ranked Houston Methodist Hospital No. 1 in Texas and among the top 20 hospitals in the nation for 2016-17. Houston Methodist is affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City as well as Texas A&M Health Science Center at Houston and the Uni- versity of Houston. Indiana University Health University Hospital (Indianapolis). As a teaching hospital, IU Health University Hospital has trained more than half of the physicians practicing in Indiana. e hospital includes the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in the state, the IU Health Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, and Indiana's highest volume transplant program. e IU Health Academic Health Center ranks first in U.S. News & World Report's 2016-17 rankings of best Indiana hospitals. Integris Baptist Medical Center (Oklahoma City). Founded in 1959, Integris Baptist Medical Center now encompasses eight cen- ters of excellence, including the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute. The medical center was the first in Oklahoma to perform a human heart transplant and in 2009, participated in the nation's first six- way, multi-hospital, domino kidney transplant, sending a kidney to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. U.S. News & World Report ranked the 511-bed Integris Baptist Medical Center No. 1 among Oklahoma hospitals in its 2016-17 rankings. Intermountain Medical Center (Murray, Utah). e medical center, opened in 2007, is the flagship facility for Salt Lake City-based Inter- mountain Healthcare. With 454 beds, Intermountain Medical Center is the largest hospital in Utah. e medical center is comprised of five interconnected centers of excellence: women's/newborn care; heart/lung care; emergency/trauma care; outpatient care; and cancer care. Inter- mountain Medical Center is active in more than 400 clinical research projects. e Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore). e hospital opened in 1889 with 220 beds, growing to more than a dozen mini-hospitals and centers in present day. Johns Hopkins Hospital is a Level I trauma center that en- compasses 37 buildings, 1,145 beds and 33 operating rooms, offering ser- vices in 226 clinical areas. In March 2016, the hospital housed the world's first liver transplant involving an HIV-positive donor and recipient. Johns Hopkins Hospital ranks No. 4 in the country and first among all Maryland hospitals, based on the U.S. News & World Report's 2016-17 rankings. Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest (Allentown, Pa.). Founded in 1899, Lehigh Valley Hospital serves as the flagship location of the Le- high Valley Health Network, which includes three hospital locations and contributes more than $4.1 billion to Pennsylvania's economy annually. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 4 in Pennsylvania for 2016-17 and nationally ranked the hospital in five adult specialties. e hospital includes breast health services, a burn center, the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center and neonatal intensive care. Loyola University Medical Center (Maywood, Ill.). e 547-bed Loyola University Medical Center includes a Level I trauma center, burn center, transplant center and a 20-bed unit for patients undergoing stem cell transplant. Formerly known as the Foster G. McGaw Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center is ranked among the top five hospitals in Illi- nois by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17 and its stroke center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the past eight years. e hospital also caters to women with high-risk pregnancies and critically ill newborns with its Level III perinatal center. Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford (Palo Alto, Calif.). e children's hospital opened in 1991, serving as Stanford Children's Health's main entity. e 302-bed hospital offers pediatric and obstet- ric services within six centers of excellence: brain and behavior; cancer; heart; pregnancy and newborn; pulmonary; and transplant. e hospi- tal is planning to open a new facility designed as a family-friendly and sustainable hospital for children and pregnant women in the summer of 2017 that will double its campus size. U.S. News & World Report ranked Lucile Packard among the top 10 children's hospitals nationwide for 2016-17. Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). Ranked No. 1 among Mas- sachusetts hospitals and No. 3 in the country by U.S. News & World Re- port for 2016-17, Mass General was the original Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Founded in 1811, the 999-bed medical center now houses a Level 1 trauma center and burn center. e hospital boasts an annual research budget of more than $800 million, with a research pro- gram extending among 20 clinical departments and centers. Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). Mayo Clinic's Rochester campus com- prises the 794-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus and the 1,265-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus. e Methodist campus is known for its transplant programs, obstetric and gynecology services and women's cancer program, among other services. e Saint Marys Campus is a Level 1 trauma center and offers computer-assisted neurosurgery as well as heart transplants. About 2,289 staff physicians and scientists serve at the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus. Mayo Clin- ic ranked No. 1 among all hospitals in the country in the U.S. News & World Report's 2016-17 rankings. Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center (Houston). Memorial Hermann-TMC was founded in 1925 and serves as the McGovern Medical School UTHealth's primary teaching hospital. e medical center is a Level I trauma center and includes the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Texas Medical Center. U.S. News & World Report ranked Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center No. 2 in the state for 2016-17. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York City). Found- ed in 1884, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center now houses 471 inpatient beds. It represents one of 69 National Cancer Institute-desig- nated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, and U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 2 in the nation for cancer care. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center encompasses more than 120 research labs and 35-plus core facilities offering research technology. Mercy Hospital (Chicago). Back in 1852, Mercy became Chicago's first chartered teaching hospital. Today, the hospital is affiliated with Univer- sity of Illinois at Chicago, University of Chicago and Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. In 2013, a Mercy Hospital surgeon was the first in the state to utilize the Olympus 3D Laparoscopic Surgical Video System to perform minimally invasive cholecystectomy. Mount Sinai Hospital (New York City). Mount Sinai Hospital opened in 1852 and now houses 1,171 beds. e hospital established a medi- cal school — now called the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai — in 1963. Mount Sinai Hospital includes more than 7,000 physicians and more than 38,000 employees. e hospital opened the first geriatric emergency department in New York City and U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 3 in the state and among the top 20 hospitals in the nation for 2016-17. Nationwide Children's Hospital (Columbus, Ohio). Nationwide Chil- dren's Hospital opened in 1892 with nine beds and has grown to serve
