14 Henry Franey. Executive Vice President and CFO of University of Maryland Medical System (Baltimore). Mr. Franey's career in the healthcare sector spans more than three decades. He spent more than 20 of those years as executive vice president and CFO of UMMS. Mr. Franey is a past member Healthcare Financial Management Association National Advisory Council and a past president of the organization's Maryland Chapter. Lawrence Furnstahl. CFO of Oregon Health & Science University (Portland). OHSU hired Mr. Furnstahl to take over the CFO position in December 2010. Previously, he was chief financial and strategy officer of the University of Chicago Medical Center and Biological Sciences Division. Mr. Furnstahl is a former recipient of the Portland Business Journal's CFO of the Year award. Steven Glass. CFO and Treasurer of Cleveland Clinic. Since assuming his current role in 2005, Mr. Glass has managed all financial operations of the Cleveland Clinic health system, including its 11 owned hospitals, two managed hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic Medical Group of more than 3,000 employed physicians. Mr. Glass is actively involved in the American Institute of Certified Accountants, Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Health Management Academy and the Ohio Hospital Association. Robert Glenning. Executive Vice President and CFO of Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center. Mr. Glenning has served as executive vice president and CFO of HackensackUMC for the last nine years, prior to which he was executive vice president and CFO of Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health. HackensackUMC boasts strong financials, with leading market share and active participation in various joint ventures and affiliations. Mr. Glenning is a board member of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Greg Gombar. Executive Vice President and CFO of Carolinas HealthCare System (Charlotte, N.C.). In addition to overseeing the financial operations of Carolinas HealthCare System, which includes more than 900 care locations and 7,500 beds, Mr. Gombar also manages the system's government relations. He has done so even since he became executive vice president in 1985. Mr. Gombar is a member of the Health Management Academy, North Carolina Association of CPAs and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Michael Gough. Senior Vice President and CFO of Norton Healthcare (Louisville, Ky.). Mr. Gough joined Norton Healthcare in 2000 as vice president of finance and was made senior vice president and CFO in 2003. The system's finances have flourished under Mr. Gough's leadership. Recent research ranked Norton Healthcare among the top 10 hospitals in the country for profiting most from patient care in fiscal year 2013. It brought in a reported $211.2 million. Richard A. Grossi. Senior Vice President and CFO of Johns Hopkins Medicine (Baltimore). Johns Hopkins Medicine appointed Mr. Grossi to the CFO position in 1996, and he is also senior associate dean for finance and administration at Johns Hopkins. Over the last 20 years, Mr. Grossi has taken care of the daily financial functions of the school of medicine, Johns Hopkins' four acute care hospitals, its medical groups, home care, long-term care, managed care organizations and international initiatives. Joe Guarracino. Senior Vice President and CFO of White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital. Mr. Guarracino assumed his current role in January. As CFO, he oversees the financial operations of White Plains Hospital, as well as its 12 satellite facilities, including two multispecialty centers. Although new to White Plains Hospital, Mr. Guarracino is not new to healthcare finance — he has more than 25 years experience in the industry. Don Halliwill. CFO of Carilion Clinic (Roanoke, Va.). Mr. Halliwill was appointed CFO of Carilion Clinic in 2013 to replace Donald E. Lorton after he retired. Mr. Halliwill joined Carilion in 1997, and served in numerous capacities — including director of finance for the New River Valley Region, CEO for Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, Va., and CFO for the organization's hospital division — before he became CFO. Outside of work, Mr. Halliwill is involved in the Vinton Baptist Church and the Vinton Chamber of Commerce. Gail Hanson. CFO of Aurora Health Care (Milwaukee). Ms. Hanson joined Aurora Health Care in 2011 after serving two years on the system's board. Under Ms. Hanson's leadership, Aurora Health Care recorded revenue of $4.9 billion in 2015, representing a 4.5 percent increase over revenue of $4.7 billion in 2014. The system also posted an operating income of $462.4 million that year. Fred Hargett. CFO of Novant Health (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Mr. Hargett joined Novant Health in 2003. He served as senior vice president of financial planning, and then executive vice president of finance, before becoming CFO. Prior to joining the system, he was the manager of healthcare consulting at Ernst & Young in Charlotte, N.C. Novant ended its most recent fiscal year with net income of $191.6 million and operating revenue of $4.1 billion — a year-over-year increase of 8.9 percent. Scott Hawig. Senior Vice President of Finance, CFO and Treasurer of Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin-Froedtert Hospital (Milwaukee). Mr. Hawig, a certified public accountant, assumed his current positions in 2012. Before joining Froedtert, Mr. Hawig was the executive leader of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System's revenue cycle organization. There, he managed more than $2.8 billion in net revenue for three hospitals, a faculty practice plan and a primary care group. Under his leadership, S&P recently revised Froedtert's outlook to positive and affirmed its "AA-" long-term debt rating. Mike Heather. CFO of Prime Healthcare Services (Ontario, Calif.). Mr. Heather has served as CFO for Prime Healthcare — one of the fastest growing health systems in the U.S. — for three years. Previously, he was CFO of Prospect Medical Holdings, where he led the company's initial public offering in 2005 and oversaw all finance department functions. Mr. Heather is active with Court Appointed Special Advocates, a nonprofit organization that helps abandoned and neglected children. Tim Heinrich. CFO of Thorek Memorial Hospital (Chicago). Mr. Heinrich became CFO of Thorek Memorial Hospital in September 2014. Thorek is a 218-bed, nonprofit, acute care facility that has served Chicagoans since it was founded in 1911. Dennis Hesch. Executive Vice President and CFO of The Carle Foundation (Urbana, Ill.). Mr. Hesch is executive vice president and CFO of Carle Foundation, which includes 393-bed Carle Foundation Hospital, Carle Physician Group and Health Alliance Medical Plans. Recent research ranked Carle Foundation Hospital among the top 10 hospitals in the country for profiting most from patient care in fiscal year 2013. It reported a profit of $163.5 million. Pam Hess. CFO of Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas West Hospitals (Nashville, Tenn.). Ms. Hess is responsible for all strategic and operational matters related to finance — including financial planning and budgeting, financial reporting, revenue cycle management and strategic initiatives — for two Nashville hospitals that share 1,200 beds combined.
