Many also oversee IT security and have built robust technology departments and teams. e individuals and institutions featured here have received recognition from the Healthcare In- formation and Management Systems Society and College of Healthcare Infor- mation Management Executives. e Becker's Hospital Review editorial team accepted nominations for this list and made selections based on editorial research and discretion. Michael Archuleta. Director of IT for Mt. San Rafael Hospital (Trinidad, Colo.). Mr. Archuleta is the director of IT for Mt. San Rafael Hospital, a 25- bed critical access hospital, overseeing all the organization's IT services, in- cluding EMR systems and support technology. He is responsible for planning, acquisition, implementation and health IT management. Since becoming di- rector of IT in 2012, Mr. Archuleta designed the hospital's first data center and added visualization efforts to reduce costs by 56 percent and improve uptime from 79 percent to 99.99 percent. Mary Alice Annecharico, RN. Senior Vice President and CIO of Henry Ford Health System (Detroit). In December 2011, Henry Ford Health System ap- pointed Ms. Annecharico senior vice president and CIO, responsible for strategic planning and integrated delivery system support. She oversees the six-hospital health system's Project Helios revenue cycle, EHRs, and physician and patient portals as well as IT improvement services. A nurse by training, Ms. Annecharico is engaged in national efforts to create sustainable, secure statewide health infor- mation exchanges and served as editor for HIMSS' digital publication, the Journal of Health Information Management. Tom Andriola. Vice President and CIO of University of California Health (Oakland). Mr. Andriola joined University of California Health in 2013 as vice president and systems CIO, responsible for working with campus and health- care leaders to explore technology and innovation. roughout his 25-plus year career in global business and technology leadership, Mr. Andriola has champi- oned organizational change and served as an innovation leader in the market- place. In addition to his role with the university, Mr. Andriola is the managing chair for the California Telehealth Network, a nonprofit focused on California's underserved population and safety-net clinics, as well as chair of the advisory board for the Pacific Research Platform, a 20-university consortium. Pamela Arora. Senior Vice President and CIO of Children's Health (Dal- las). Ms. Arora joined Children's Health in 2007 aer spending more than 30 years in IT. She previously served as the senior vice president and CIO of Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health Care and CIO of Dal- las-based Perot Systems. At Children's Health, Ms. Arora is responsible for directing information services groups and oversees all systems and technolo- gy, health information management, and biomedical technology and support efforts. Under her leadership, the four-hospital health system achieved the HIMSS Stage 7 EMR Adoption designation in 2010 and earned the HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award for innovative use of EHR in 2013. Sameer Badlani, MD. Vice President and Chief Health Information Of- ficer of Sutter Health (Sacramento, Calif.). Dr. Badlani serves as the vice president and chief health information officer for Sutter Health, overseeing enterprise clinical informatics, analytics and data management. Dr. Badlani brings an interest in healthcare delivery and driving the value of analytics in the clinical and business workflow to his current position. He has an extensive background in healthcare and IT, serving as the CHIO of Salt Lake City- based Intermountain Healthcare before joining Sutter Health, and CMIO of the University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences before that. Daniel Barchi. CIO of NewYork-Presbyterian (New York City). Mr. Barchi became CIO of NewYork-Presbyterian on Dec. 1, 2015, taking on responsibility for the health system's IT department. He led the rollout of NewYork-Presbyterian's telehealth program in 2016, which allows patients to remotely connect with physicians for video consults and second opin- ions. Before joining NewYork-Presbyterian, Mr. Barchi was senior vice pres- ident and CIO of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System and Yale School of Medicine, where he led EMR implementation across three hospitals and launched a secure iPhone application for physician communication. His background also includes time as senior vice president and CIO of Roanoke, Va.-based Carilion Health System. Gary Barnes. Senior Vice President and CIO of Medical Center Health System (Odessa, Texas). Prior to joining Medical Center Health Systems, Mr. Barnes was a systems analyst at IBM with experience in IT. Medical Cen- ter Health System named him senior vice president and CIO in 2015 aer he spent nearly 30 years with the system. In 2017, Mr. Barnes led the implemen- tation of a new EHR, which earned the 2017 CHIME-AHA Transformation- al Leadership Award — an honor given to the hospital CEO and CIO whose strong partnership resulted in IT efforts to change healthcare delivery. e project met its go-live date under budget, and the system has experienced improvement in report turnaround time and reduced costs. omas Barnett. University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center. Mr. Bar- nett leads the IT department for University of Rochester Medical Center, overseeing its IT transformation in clinical services, revenue cycle, data ware- housing and analytics, as well as hospital acquisitions and integrations. He is responsible for the hospital's modernization and technology transformation efforts around population health and data analytics; he also collaborates with URMC's research teams to move projects forward. Prior to joining URMC in 2016, Mr. Barnett served as vice president of application services at North- Shore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill., and vice president of IT at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, where he oversaw EHR implementation. Chris Belmont. Vice President and CIO of University of Texas MD An- derson Cancer Center (Houston). Mr. Belmont joined University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2014 as vice president and CIO aer spend- ing seven years in health IT at New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System. While at Ochsner, Mr. Belmont led a five-year systems transformation proj- ect that included several departments and revenue cycle systems. He also led efforts to implement EHR at MD Anderson. With more than 30 years of health IT experience, including time consulting with Siemens, Healthlink and IBM, Mr. Belmont has a wealth of experience to draw on as he leads IT for the 25-building healthcare organization. David Bensema, MD. CIO of Baptist Health (Louisville, Ky.). Baptist Health named Dr. Bensema, a board-certified internist, CIO in 2014. Dr. Bensema spent 16 years in a Lexington, Ky.-based private practice before joining Baptist Health in 2006 as executive director of physician services for Central Baptist Hospital — later renamed Baptist Health Lexington — and medical director of Baptist Physicians Lexington. As CIO, Dr. Bensema developed the health system's IT structures and built the IT team, leading efforts to develop a systemwide EHR. In 2014, Dr. Bensema was president-elect of the Kentucky Medical Association and spent time on the e-Health Board for Kentucky. Julie Berry. CIO of Steward Health Care System (Boston). Ms. Berry is the CIO of Steward Health Care System, where she oversees the 36-hos- pital system's IT department. She has devoted her 20-plus year career to health IT and served as Steward's chief technology officer before being named CIO. Ms. Berry is a member of the Massachusetts Health Data
