Baptist Health, a nine-hospital system in Louisville, Ky., signed a letter of intent to ac- quire and operate Elizabethtown, Ky.-based Hardin Memorial Health Nov. 6. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems sold Merit Health Northwest Mis- sissippi, a 181-bed hospital in Clarksdale, to Clinton, Tenn.-based Curae Health. Empower iHCC, a for-profit company based in Miami, beat out six other healthcare orga- nizations to place the winning bid for More- head Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C. Kansas City-based University of Kansas Health System and Nashville, Tenn.-based Ardent Health Services closed on their joint acquisition of St. Francis Health, a 378-bed hospital in Topeka, Kan., Nov. 1. Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health divested 72-bed L.V. Stabler Memorial Hos- pital in Greenville, Ala., to the Health Care Authority of the City of Greenville-L.V. Sta- bler Hospital, a public corporation. Community Health Systems completed the sale of Highlands Regional Medical Center, a 126-bed hospital in Sebring, Fla., to Nash- ville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare. e Caro (Mich.) Community Hospital board of trustees signed a definitive agree- ment to join McLaren Health Care, a 12-hos- pital system in Grand Blanc, Mich. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems signed a definitive agreement Dec. 4 to sell Bayfront Health Dade City (Fla.) and its associated assets to subsidiaries of Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based Adventist Health System. Green Bay, Wis.-based Bellin Health signed a letter of intent to acquire Iron Mountain, Mich.-based Dickinson County Healthcare System Dec. 4. New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System will assume operations at the state's safety net hospitals in Monroe and Shreveport. Danville, Ky.-based Ephraim McDowell Health revealed plans to acquire Harrods- burg, Ky.-based James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Health Sys- tem is discussing a potential management agreement to prevent a 60-year-old rural hos- pital — J. Paul Jones Hospital in Camden, Ala. — from closing. Medina, N.Y.-based Orleans Community Health ended its three-year affiliation with Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health Oct. 12. Planned Parenthood recently purchased Charleston (S.C.) Women's Medical Center and is offering elective abortions at the facili- ty aer it reopened in December. Columbia, S.C.-based Palmetto Health and Greenville (S.C.) Health System finalized their partnership Nov. 21 — creating a com- bined healthcare entity consisting of 13 hos- pitals. Portland, Ind.-based Jay County Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital, will join Indi- anapolis-based IU Health March 1 aer sign- ing a definitive agreement.
