Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System and Temple, Texas-based Scott & White Healthcare completed their merger, forming the largest nonprofit health system in Texas. After months of review, the Massachusetts Public Health Council signed off on the pending transaction between Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Jordan Health Systems, parent company of Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Mass. Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners announced it would restructure a proposed deal to become a minority owner of Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System in response to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland's rejection of the strategic partnership. Officials at Central Maine HealthCare in Lewiston sent a letter to Maine's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Services, announcing it has withdrawn its application for a certificate of need to acquire Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick, Maine. Providence, R.I.-based CharterCare Health Partners and Santa Ana, Calif.-based Prospect Medical Holdings signed a definitive asset purchase agreement to form a joint venture. Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene (N.H.) and Dartmouth-Hitchcock entered into negotiations to explore a "closer affiliation" from their current agreement. Livonia, Mich.-based CHE Trinity Health and St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, N.Y., decided to not move forward with their proposed affiliation. Officials at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Fla., voted in favor of a sale or lease to Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America. Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based College Health Enterprises purchased Pacific Hospital of Long Beach (Calif.), now named College Hospital of Long Beach. The Federal Trade Commission and Securities and Exchange Commission said they are delving further into the pending transaction between Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates, but CHS said it still expects the deal will close early next year. Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., and Boscobel (Wis.) Area Health Care completed their affiliation agreement, and the 25-bed critical access hospital is now known as Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics. Health Management Associates, based in Naples, Fla., signed a definitive agreement with Lexington, Ky.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare to sell Williamson (W.Va.) Memorial Hospital, Health Management's only hospital in West Virginia. Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America completed its purchase of three Florida hospitals from Franklin, Tenn.-based IASIS Healthcare. J.C. Blair Health System, based in Huntingdon, Pa., and Harrisburg, Pa.-based PinnacleHealth System signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding, a step forward in the two organizations' ongoing process of forming a partnership. Lafayette (La.) General Health and Bunkie (La.) General Hospital formed a clinical affiliation to expand patient services. Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, entered into an affiliation agreement with Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health. Executives at Lehigh Valley Health Network and Westfield Hospital, both in Allentown, Pa., signed an asset purchase agreement, in which LVHN will buy Westfield Hospital and convert it into an orthopedic center. McKenzie Health System, based in Sandusky, Mich., and Marlette (Mich.) Regional Hospital finalized their affiliation, which started loosely in 2010. Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Mich., officially integrated with Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Mich., and became Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy signed a nonbinding letter of intent with Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives to transfer ownership of Mercy Hospital Hot Springs (Ark.). Mercy Health in Cincinnati opened the $270 million West Hospital, a 250-bed hospital on the west side of Cincinnati, and in the process, the system is attempting to sell two of its other hospitals. Meriter Health Services in Madison, Wis., agreed to become an affiliate of West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health. East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Lanier Health Services, in Valley, Ala., signed a letter of intent to merge. The New York State Department of Health has approved New York City-based Montefiore Medical Center's certificate of need to purchase Sound Shore Health System, based in New Rochelle, N.Y.   Maine health officials approved the certificate of need between Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems in Brewer and Mercy Health System in Portland, thus finalizing the organizations' proposed affiliation. The Mount Sinai Medical Center and Continuum Health Partners, both based in New York City, completed their merger and formed a new integrated health system called the Mount Sinai Health System. Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, both based in Utica, N.Y., moved closer to an affiliation by submitting a certificate of need application to the New York State Department of Health. Three healthcare organizations agreed to participate in a "stalking horse" bidding process concerning the sale of Natchez (Miss.) Regional Medical Center. Three Maryland hospital systems — Frederick (Md.) Regional Health System, Meritus Health in Hagerstown and Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland — signed a letter of intent to create a regional collaboration focused on cost reduction and population health management for western Maryland patients. Effective Oct. 1, New London (N.H.) Hospital became an affiliate of Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Novant Health in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Spartanburg (S.C.) Regional Healthcare System signed a letter of intent to work together within Novant Health Shared Services.
