LifePoint Hospitals in Brentwood, Tenn., and Fauquier Health in Warrenton, Va., signed a definitive agreement to form a joint venture. The Louisiana State Civil Service Commission has approved the privatization of Shreveport-based LSU Medical Center and E.A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe, La., within Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division. Memorial Hospital of Martinsville (Va.) and Henry County and Danville (Va.) Regional Medical Center combined to form a regional health system Executives at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Mich., and Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Mich., signed a definitive agreement that will turn MMC into an affiliate of Spectrum. The board of directors at Metro Health, based in Wyoming, Mich., decided to "explore a strategic equity partnership" with Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and Cleveland Clinic. Gainesville, Ga.-based Northeast Georgia Medical Center signed a letter of intent with the Habersham County Hospital Authority to work toward a partnership with Habersham Medical Center in Demorest, Ga. New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System was approved to manage the operations of Hancock Medical Center, a 47-bed, county-owned hospital in Bay St. Louis, Miss. California Attorney General Kamala Harris approved a proposed merger between Whittier, Calif.-based PIH Health and Downey (Calif.) Regional Medical Center. Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, W.Va., has signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Mon Health System in Morgantown, W.Va. Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services' proposed purchase of Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., received approval from a subcommittee of the Rhode Island Department of Health advisory council. Denver-based  Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System  announced it has entered into negotiations to sell its Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., to Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services, beating out several high-profile Catholic systems. Rutherford Regional Health System in Rutherfordton, N.C., and Duke LifePoint Healthcare in Brentwood, Tenn., signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture. Scottsdale (Ariz.) Healthcare and John C. Lincoln Health Network in Phoenix signed a definitive agreement to combine, creating a new nonprofit system called Scottsdale Lincoln Health Network. Two small community hospitals in northwest Washington state — Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics in Arlington — voted to begin affiliation negotiations with Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth. Southern Illinois Healthcare in Carbondale joined the BJC Collaborative, a loose coalition of Midwestern health systems, with the goal of improving the "quality and efficiency of healthcare" throughout the region. The Henderson County Board of Commissioners in Hendersonville, N.C., unanimously voted to finalize an extension of the management agreement between Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care System and Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., to 25 years. The Unicoi County Commission in Erwin, Tenn., unanimously approved the sale of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital to Johnson City, Tenn.- based Mountain States Health Alliance. Executives at UnityPoint Health-Methodist and Proctor Hospital, both in Peoria, Ill., signed an initial affiliation agreement that would merge the two organizations under one system. UnityPoint Health–St. Luke's in Sioux City, Iowa, and Cherokee (Iowa) Regional Medical Center signed an agreement to affiliate. Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System signed a contract with the parent company of Fort Washington (Md.) Medical Center — Oxon Hill, Md.-based Nexus Health — to take over the business development, management and operations of the 37-bed hospital. University of Washington Medicine in Seattle and PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Wash., signed an affiliation agreement that will make UW Medicine hospitals the preferred tertiary and quaternary provider for PeaceHealth patients in the northwest. USMD Holdings, a physician-led health system based in Irving, Texas, increased its ownership stake in USMD Hospital at Arlington (Texas). WellSpan Health in York, Pa., and Ephrata (Pa.) Community Hospital finalized plans for Ephrata to join WellSpan.
