15 DEVICES & IMPLANTS Meet the CEOs of 5 spine device companies By Carly Behm Here are the CEOs of five spine device companies worldwide: Patrick Miles of Alphatec (Carlsbad, Calif.): Mr. Miles was named chair and CEO in October 2017, and he has more than 20 years of experience in the orthopedic industry. Before joining Alphatec he was with NuVasive as vice chair. Dan Scavilla of Globus Medical (Audubon, Pa.): Mr. Scavilla joined Globus Medical in 2015 as CFO and later served as executive vice president, chief commercial officer and president of the trauma segment. He was promoted to top leadership in 2022. He is also a member of Globus Medical's Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and has been on the company's board of directors since 2022. Kevin Lobo of Stryker (Kalamazoo, Mich.): Mr. Lobo was named CEO in 2012 and was previously the company's group president of orthopedics. Mr. Lobo has worked across multiple indistries with companies including KPMG, Unilever, Kra Canada and Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Lobo won the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his career at Stryker in August. Massimo Calafiore of Orthofix (Lewisville, Texas): Massimo Calafiore was named CEO in November and was previously CEO of LimaCorporate. He also was executive vice president and chief commercial officer at NuVasive before its merger with Globus Medical. He earned his MBA from New York University in New York City and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Catania in Italy. Sean Browne of Xtant Medical (Belgrade, Mont.): Mr. Browne worked in the medical device industry for more than 30 years. Before joining Xtant Medical he was chief revenue officer at CCS Medical. He has previous experience at companies including Neuro Resource Group, Integra LifeSciences Corporation, McKesson and Baxter Healthcare. n
