32 ORTHOPEDICS Geisinger's $180M orthopedic center scrapped By Carly Behm Geisinger's plans for a $180 million orthopedic center were called off, e Daily Item reported March 28. e Danville, Pa.-based health system first announced the project in November 2021 and was deemed as its "largest facilities investment for [the year]." However, an analysis of COVID-19's impact on operations led to the decision to scrap the plan, the report said. "Our analysis of this drastic shi in inpatient orthopaedic trends led us the decision to defer our pursuit of a standalone orthopaedics hospital in Buckhorn and revisit our plan in Central Pennsylvania — and Buckhorn specifically — to develop a strategy that better meets the evolving health care needs in our communities," Geisinger officials said in the report. "While this was a difficult decision, it was the responsible decision to make at this time." e orthopedic center would have had specialized operating rooms, an inpatient unit and an onsite outpatient clinic. It has even shown the ability to pass the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam. Here are four medical exams ChatGPT has passed so far: 1. ChatGPT scored a 58 percent on a common study exam used by physicians preparing for a board certification in ophthalmology. 2. ChatGPT passed three exams associated with the United States Medical Licensing Exam at 60 percent accuracy with no prior reinforcement or training. 3. ChatGPT passed a college-level microbiology quiz created by science journalist Alex Berezow, PhD, with a score of 95 percent. 4. ChatGPT passed a Stanford (Calif.) Medical School clinical reasoning final exam with a score of 72 percent. Medical school students need a score of 70 percent to advance from the course. n
