48 JOINT VENTURES UAB Medicine opening joint venture ASC By Marcus Robertson W infield, Ala.-based Northwest Regional Health and UAB Medicine, based in Birmingham, are partnering for a new surgery center. The facility will be located in Winfield, UAB said Aug. 3. It will be led by Greg Kennedy, MD, PhD, UAB Heersink School of Medicine's gastrointestinal surgery division di- rector and John H. Blue Chair of General Surgery. It will open Aug. 12, UAB said. n Centura Mercy Hospital, USPI partner to build Colorado ASC By Riz Hatton D urango, Colo.-based Centura Mercy Hospital has partnered with Dallas-based United Surgical Part- ners International and local physicians to build a new surgery center. Three Springs Surgery Center will be located in Durango. It is expected to be 13,500 square feet with three operat- ing rooms and two procedure rooms, according to a July 6 news release. The ASC will offer spine, orthopedics, pain, podiatry, gas- trointestinal and urology services. Construction for the center is expected to begin this year and be completed in 2024, the release said. n Health system opens joint-venture ASC in Minneapolis By Marcus Robertson M inneapolis-based Allina Health opened a joint-ven- ture ASC in Minneapolis, REBusinessOnline report- ed June 14. The two-story facility, dubbed 610 Medical, is a 40,000-square- foot surgery center, the report said. Allina Health leases about 18,000 square feet, or most of the second floor. The multispecialty center offers procedures in ENT, orthope- dics, urology and general surgery. n PE GI Solutions, Garden State Endoscopy form joint venture with Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas By Riz Hatton G astroenterology-focused ASC management service organization PE GI Solutions and Mountainside, N.J.- based Garden State Endoscopy, a 14-physician prac- tice, have formed a joint venture with Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas in West Orange, N.J. The joint venture with New Jersey's largest healthcare system makes Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Garden State Endos- copy's hospital system partner, according to a March 29 news release from PE GI solutions. The partnership will allow all parties to work toward scaling growth in New Jersey, according to the news release. n 3-practice merger forms East Coast orthopedic group with 5 spine surgeons, 6 locations By Alan Condon W ayne, N.J.-based University Spine Center, Academy Orthopaedics and High Mountain Orthopedics have merged to form OrthoEast. OrthoEast has sixteen physicians, five of whom are spine surgeons: Arash Emami, MD; Ki Hwang, MD; Kumar Sinha, MD; Michael Faloon, MD; and Nikhil Sahai, MD. e practice has 6 locations across New Jersey and New York. Ortho East physicians are affiliated with several universities and medical centers in the region, including Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health, Valley Hospital in Ridgeview, N.J. Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., and Montclair (N.J.) State University. "It's an exciting time for us all as we merge these three independently successful practices into one newly-formed venture," William Matarese, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at High Mountain Orthopedics, said in an Aug. 10 news release. "Our visions are closely aligned and that favorably positions us to execute on our ambitious goals together." n
