Mathew Warnock, MD, of Fondren Orthopedic Group, were damaged in a November malware attack. Five things to know: 1. The Houston-based practice issued a notice stating a malware incident occurred Nov. 21, 2019, that resulted in damaged medical records within the Fondren system. 2. After a forensic investigation, the practice reported no evidence that a third-party accessed or acquired medical records or personal data. However, some of the records were damaged and are no longer available for use. 3. The patient information in damaged records includes patient names, addresses, telephone numbers, diagno- ses and treatment information. Insurance information was also included in some of the records. 4. Dr. Warnock may need to gather new patient informa- tion and medical history forms for returning patients that had affected records. 5. Fondren has strict security measures to protect patient information and took steps after the attack to restore its systems. The group is also reviewing data security policies and procedures. n Spine, orthopedic care shifts to larger facility following Shriners hospital closure By Alan Condon S hriners Hospitals for Children — Houston will consol- idate spine and orthopedic care to the system's Gal- veston, Texas, facility as the hospital plans to close in 2021, the Houston Chronicle reports. The closure will end the hospital's 100-year presence in Houston, which features 15 orthopedic physicians includ- ing two spine surgeons, according to its website. Douglas Barnes, MD, is chief of staff at the 40-bed hospi- tal, which provides pediatric spine, orthopedic and sports medicine care. The hospital's closure is driven by plans to build a premier hospital in the area. The consolidation of services will be completed in the first half of 2021. n Work progressing on Adena's $70M orthopedic, robotic surgery center — 4 insights By Eric Oliver C hillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health System is building an orthopedic and robotic surgery center, which will open in the summer of 2021, the Record Herald reports. Adena committed $70 million to the five-story addition. 4.
