Spineology receives notice of allowance for PEEK,
titanium & graft containment mesh implant system:
4 highlights
By Shayna Korol
S
pineology received a notice of allowance from the U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office for its mesh spacer hybrid patent appli-
cation.
e allowed claims include three independent device claims cover-
ing Spineology's Duo implant, a proprietary intervertebral implant
that includes PEEK intervertebral spacer elements and an expandable
mesh gra containment element.
Here are four things to know.
1. Spineology expects the patent to be issued in the next several weeks.
2. e Duo System implant is the first to combine PEEK, titanium and
gra containment mesh elements. e design is intended to reduce
the access required to implant a device relative to traditional lateral
systems.
3. By minimizing the nerve and so tissue retraction typically re-
quired in these surgeries, the Duo System is designed to reduce post-
operative thigh pain and other complications frequently associated
with the lateral approach.
4. Once filled, the Duo implant is intended to create a large, load-shar-
ing, endplate-conforming gra pack that expands up to 30 millimeters
in width to help maintain spinal correction and support fusion. n
