Hospital, Cabell Huntington announced March 26. St. Louis-based Ascension signed a nonbinding letter of intent to transfer ownership of one of its Connecticut-based assets to Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare, Ascension announced March 27. Cleveland Clinic entered into an agreement to potentially integrate Stuart, Fla.-based Martin Health System as a full member, the three-hos- pital system announced March 22. e board of Mission Health, a six-hospital, nonprofit system based in Asheville, N.C., signed a letter of intent to join Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare. Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care and Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care received the last approval necessary to finalize their proposed merger and become the 10th largest nonprofit health system in the na- tion. Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health is selling three Louisiana hospitals to Allegiance Health Management in Shreveport, La. Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Youngstown (Ohio) Hospital signed a letter of intent March 15 to integrate Prima Healthcare, an indepen- dent physician practice with offices in Salem, Columbiana and Boardman, Ohio, and its pro- viders into the system. Carbondale, Pa.-based Maxis Health entered into a nonbinding agreement March 8 to sell Lourdes Health System, a two-hospital system in Camden, N.J., to Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua Health. e Massachusetts Department of Public Health approved the proposed merger between Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Med- ical Center, Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health and three other healthcare organiza- tions March 5. e New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General signed off on the proposed combina- tion of Manchester, N.H.-based Elliot Health System and Nashua-based Southern New Hampshire Health March 5. Coudersport, Pa.-based Cole Memorial Hos- pital officially completed its integration with Pittsburgh-based UPMC March 1. St. Louis-based Ascension Health, finalized its acquisition of Presence Health, a Catholic health system in Chicago. San Francisco-based UCSF Health and Sono- ma (Calif.) Valley Hospital signed an affilia- tion agreement March 1 to create an integrated healthcare network. Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare officially integrated Columbus (Ga.) Regional Health March 1, making Piedmont a 10-hospital system. Nashville, Tenn.-based Ardent Health Ser- vices and Tyler, Texas-based UT Health Northeast finalized their joint purchase of East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare Sys- tem, also in Tyler, March 1. Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health completed the sale of 70-bed Vista Medical Center West in Waukegan, Ill., to New York City-based US HealthVest March 1. Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare divested a Chi- cago-area hospital and sold its minority inter- est in four Texas hospitals. Boston-based Partners HealthCare and Prov- idence, R.I.-based Care New England ap- proached Lifespan, also in Providence, Feb. 27 to begin formal discussions to form a partner- ship. Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System declared its intent to merge with Cin- cinnati-based Mercy Health Feb. 21 to create an $8 billion system. Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Health System entered into a management agreement Feb. 14 with J. Paul Jones Hospital in Camden, Ala., to prevent the rural hospital from closing. Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health, former- ly Carolinas HealthCare System, signed a let- ter of intent to merge with Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health Feb. 8. Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System final- ized the terms of its agreement to integrate La- dysmith, Wis.-based Rusk County Memorial Hospital Feb. 6. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Bap- tist Medical Center created a joint venture Feb. 2 to take over Sparta, N.C.-based Allegha- ny Memorial Hospital. Hospital and health system executive moves John Barrett, CEO of Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Va., retired April 13. John Bartos, CEO of Marcus Daly Memo- rial Hospital in Hamilton, Mont., is retiring June 30. Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO Vance Brown, MD, resigned April 20. Chad Campbell, CEO of McKenzie-Willa- mette Medical Center in Springfield, Ore., resigned for a new job opportunity.
