38 Gastroenterology 5 Predictions on GI in 2018 By Eric Oliver R esearchers from the Cleveland Clinic shared their thoughts with MedPage Today about what's in store for gastroen- terology in 2018. e overarching theme for 2018 will be to drive value and cost efficiency, said Cleveland Clinic's Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute Chair- man Conor Delaney, MD, PhD. Dr. Delaney added that the industry will continue to focus on outcomes improvement, while also discuss- ing colon cancer screening and endoscopy disinfection. Here are five other predictions: 1. Gastroenterologists will participate in shared risk models with primary care physicians. 2. Payers will approve biologics and hepatitis C drug therapies but with reserve. 3. Dr. Delaney expects new models of specialty GI care will emerge with bundled payments. 4. Researchers will develop an endoscopy therapy for obesity and metabolic syndrome. 5. e recommended age for colon cancer screening will decrease. n 11 Statistics on GI net Revenue per Case at ASCs By Laura Dyrda H ere are 11 statistics on gastroen- terology net revenue per case for ASCs, according to VMG Health's Multi-Specialty ASC Intellimarker 2017. Gastroenterology net revenue per case 1. Mean: $1,117 2. 25th percentile: $805 3. Median: $1,004 4. 75th percentile: $1,331 5. 90th percentile: $1,613 By geographic region 6. Atlantic: $826 7. Midwest: $957 8. Mountain: $980 9. Northeast: $1,133 10. Pacific: $1,140 11. South: $1,185 n Top 10 States With the Highest Volume of Gastroenterology Procedures per ASC By Laura Dyrda C MS released the ASC Quality Reporting data for 2018 payment year, covering the average number of procedures performed at ASCs per state in select specialties. The data, gathered from Jan. 1, 2016, to Dec. 31, 2016, includes gastroenterology procedures. The GI procedures featured in the data include: • GI endoscopy • Hernia repair • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy Here are the 10 states with the highest volume of GI proce- dures per ASC: 1. Rhode Island: 6,552 2. New York: 6,346 3. Connecticut: 4,405 4. Alabama: 4,106 5. Massachusetts: 4,093 6. Michigan: 4,078 7. New Mexico: 3,890 8. North Carolina: 3,877 9. Kentucky: 3,693 10. Mississippi: 3,662 n Physicians Endoscopy turns 20 By Eric Oliver J amison, Pa.-based Physicians Endoscopy is in the midst of celebrating its 20th an- niversary. Aer opening as an LLC in 1998, the company found its mission in 1999 when CEO Barry Tan- ner and CFO Karen Sablyak joined. Mr. Tanner and Ms. Sablyak co-wrote the business plan and are recognized as the company's founders. Mr. Tanner said, "PE's journey started as a little company sitting in a small office writing a business plan with one critical mission — to be the leader in supporting the single specialty of gastroenterology. It was a bold idea to dedicate an entire organization to only one specialty, but it was our strategic vision to do one thing and do it really well." To date, Physicians Endoscopy has nearly 60 ASCs, performing more than 535,000 annual procedures. e company touts 275 employees and 600 gastroenterologist partners.
