52 HEALTHCARE NEWS Physician Group Seeks to Purchase Troubled Ohio Hospital: 4 Things to Know By Laura Dyrda A group of Massillon, Ohio-based Affin- ity Medical Center physicians aims to purchase the troubled hospital from Quorum Health, according to Canton Rep. Here are four things to know: 1. At least seven physicians are putting together a plan to purchase Affinity Medical Center, a hospital that current owner Quo- rum Health plans to close on Feb. 4. 2. In the report, Nash Gabrail, MD, one of the physicians hoping to purchase the hospital, said the group could grow to 80 or 90 physi- cians and/or business leaders as investors. 3. The hospital has reported declining rev- enues as well as increased operational costs. At a city council meeting, the hospital work- ers also reported billing and coding errors that may contribute to the hospital's financial situation. 4. Dr. Gabrail didn't comment on a fair price of the hospital, and the transaction depends on achieving enough investors and Quo- rum's willingness to sell. n Dr. Tom Price to Advise Jackson Healthcare on Board: 5 Things to Know By Megan Wood Former HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, will now serve on Jackson Healthcare's advisory board. Here are five things to know: 1. Jackson Healthcare, an Atlanta-based, $1 billion company, provides healthcare staffing, search and technology services. Its companies assist 1,300-plus healthcare organizations treating 7 million-plus patients every year. 2. Richard L. Jackson, chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, said Dr. Price's "physician, business and policy experience," makes him an asset to the board. In the press release, Mr. Jackson noted: "Nobody has as profound an understanding of the national healthcare land- scape as Dr. Price." 3. Throughout his career, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Price served as managing partner of Atlanta-area Chattahoochee Associates and was a founder of Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopedics. 4. He was a Georgia state senator from 1997 to 2005 and a U.S. House of Representatives member from 2005 to 2017. Dr. Price also served as HHS secretary from February to September 2017, when he re- signed amid an inspector general investigation into his private plane use for government business trips. 5. Dr. Price completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta. "I am honored to join the advisory board at Jackson Healthcare," Dr. Price said. "Jackson Healthcare's mission of working to improve patient care is wholly aligned with the work I have done for over four decades, and I look forward to helping them navigate the always changing healthcare environment." n 5 Things to Know About White House Physician Dr. Ronny Jackson By Alyssa Rege P resident Donald Trump underwent his first medical exam while in office Jan. 12 at Bethesda, Md.-based Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. e exam was conducted by Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, MD, who has served as the official physician to the president since 2013. Here are five things to know about Dr. Jackson. 1. Dr. Jackson, a native of Levelland, Texas, received his undergraduate degree in marine biology from College Station-based Texas A&M University. He received his medical degree in 1995 from the Galveston-based University of Texas Medical Branch, accord- ing to his biography on the website for the U.S. Navy. 2. He began his active duty naval service in 1995 at the Portsmouth (Va.) Naval Medical Center, and returned to PNMC in 2001 to begin his residency in emergency medicine. 3. Dr. Jackson was selected to serve as a White House physician in 2006, and has provided care to White House officials dur- ing the past three administrations. He was appointed physician to the president for former President Barack Obama during his administration and serves in the same posi- tion under the Trump administration. 4. As physician to the president, Dr. Jackson is responsible for attending to the healthcare needs of the president, the first family, the vice president, White House staff and people visiting the White House, including heads of state and civilian guests, Newsweek reports. 5. Dr. Jackson may also advise on the presi- dent's mental health and questions regard- ing the invocation of the 25th Amendment, which dictates the presidential succession in the event the current president is removed from office. n
