43 OUTPATIENT SURGERY 3 Surgery Centers, Hospital Compete for NC CON — 5 Things to Know By Eric Oliver W ilmington Surgery Center, Wilmington ASC, New Hanover Surgical Center and OWP4 and New Hanover Regional are competing for certificate of need approval from the North Carolina Department of Health, WilmingtonBiz reports. All organizations are based in Wilmington, N.C. Here's what you should know: 1. The projects vary in degree of extent. 2. New Hanover Regional wants to add an operating room to its existing cam- pus. It's estimated to cost $1.3 million and could be completed by October 2019, if approved. 3. Wilmington Surgery Center would also like to expand on its existing facility by adding an additional OR. If approved, the ASC would have 11 ORs. The proj- ect is estimated to cost $1.1 million and could be completed by January 2021. 4. Wilmington ASC has proposed a new $13.4 million ASC in Wilmington. The center would transfer three existing endoscopy procedure rooms from its cur- rent ASC and incorporate a new operating room into the new ASC. Wilmington ASC anticipates the project would be complete in January 2020. 5. New Hanover Surgical Center and OPW4 proposed a new joint venture ASC with one OR and two procedure rooms. The group estimates the project will cost $6.2 million and could be completed by January 2020. n USPI, Hospital for Special Surgery Partner to Open Florida ASC: 5 Things to Know By Laura Dyrda U nited Surgical Partners International, a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare, partnered with New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery to open an ASC in West Palm Beach, Fla., according to South Florida Business Journal. Here are five things to know: 1. The new outpatient care and surgery center will be located near Good Sa- maritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, which is also a Tenet facility. 2. HSS physicians will staff the new center, which will offer orthopedic surgery, diagnostics, rehabilitation and sports performance services. 3. The partners haven't released plans detailing the facility or when the ground- breaking will occur. However, Tenet Executive Chairman and CEO Ron Rittenmeyer expects the new facility to provide an orthopedic center of excellence for patients. 4. HSS President and CEO Louis Shapiro told South Florida Business Journal that HSS sees a high volume of patients from South Florida on an annual basis; the new facility will provide more local care for South Florida residents. 5.
