20 PRACTICE MANAGEMENT Dr. Tom Price to Advise Jackson Healthcare on Board: 5 Things to Know By Megan Wood F ormer HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, will now serve on Jackson Healthcare's advisory board. Here are five things to know: 1. Jackson Healthcare, an Atlanta-based, $1 billion company, encompasses healthcare staffing, search and technology services. Its companies assist 1,300-plus healthcare or- ganizations treating 7 million-plus patients every year. 2. Richard L. Jackson, chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, highlighted Dr. Price's "physician, business and policy experience," making him an asset to the board. In the press release, Mr. Jackson noted: "Nobody has as profound an understanding of the national healthcare landscape as Dr. Price." 3. roughout his career, Dr. Price served as managing partner of Atlanta-area Chat- tahoochee Associates and was a founder of Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics. 4. He was a Georgia state senator from 1997 to 2005 and a U.S. House of Representatives member from 2005 to 2017. Dr. Price also served as HHS secretary from February to September 2017, when he resigned amid an inspector general investigation into his private plane use for government business trips. 5. Dr. Price completed his orthopedic sur- gery residency at Emory University in At- lanta. "I am honored to join the advisory board at Jackson Healthcare," Dr. Price said. "Jackson Healthcare's mission of working to improve patient care is wholly aligned with the work I have done for over four decades, and I look forward to helping them navigate the always changing healthcare environment." n 5 Neurosurgeons Expand Advocate Lutheran General's Brain & Spine Institute By Mackenzie Garrity D owners Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Medical Group wel- comed five neurosurgeons to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill. The five neurosur- geons will practice at the hospital's Brain & Spine Institute, the Chicago Tribune reports. The neurosurgeons include: • Egon Doppenberg, MD • Dean Karahalios, MD • Jonathan Liu, MD • Patrick Sugrue, MD • Robert Givens Kellogg, MD The surgeons specialize in minimal- ly invasive spine surgery, spinal fu- sion, stereotactic neurosurgery and radiosurgery, cervical artificial disc replacement and complex spine re- construction. As a designated comprehensive stroke center, the Brain & Spine Institute uti- lizes the CyberKnife Radiosurgery Sys- tem to treat spine and brain tumors. Additionally, the institute provides care and treatment for pediatric neurologi- cal conditions in partnership with the Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge. n The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics' Revenue Increases 75% in Less Than 5 Years: 5 Takeaways By Mackenzie Garrity S ince its inception in 2014, Bethesda, Md.-based The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics has seen rapid growth. Here are five insights: 1. CAO first started with 128 physicians. The group has since grown 40 per- cent to nearly 200 physicians working at 65 locations and 39 physical therapy centers under the leadership of Nick Grosso, MD, Louis Levitt, MD, and Subir Jossan, MD. 2. Along with a boost in physicians, CAO has experienced a 75 percent increase in revenue, becoming the largest orthopedic group in the nation. 3. According to The Physician Foundation, private practice employment has dropped from 62 percent of physicians in 2008 to 35 percent in 2014. Howev- er, CAO has created a model that encourages private practice employment and uses resources from all physicians to flourish. 4. CAO physicians have access to patient data from the almost 200 physicians involved. This allows CAO to improve clinical outcomes and streamline pro- cesses. 5. Drs. Grosso, Levitt and Jossan created CAO with the determination to help private practices grow. He believes private practice is the best model for per- sonalized care. n
