15 Nazmul Islam. CIO of the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As the CIO of the University of Alabama at Bir- mingham's department of medicine, Mr. Islam is responsible for IT spanning 800 students, 900 residents and 1,400 full-time faculty. He oversees both long-range plans and day-to-day operations for the IT department, ensur- ing compliance and communication safety across the healthcare enterprise. During his tenure at UAB, Mr. Islam has led efforts to secure desktop com- puters across the department as well as email systems and mobile devices. Mark Jacobs. CIO of Delaware Health Information Network (Dover). As the first CIO of Delaware Health Information Network, Mr. Jacobs oversees IT for the statewide health information exchange. e HIE was founded in 1997 and went live in 2009, becoming the first operational statewide HIE in the U.S. Prior to joining DHIN, Mr. Jacobs had more than 30 years of health IT expe- rience, including time as director of technology for York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health System and director of technology for Lancaster (Pa.) Health Alliance. Kyle Johnson. Vice President and CIO of Eastern Maine Healthcare System (Brewer). Ms. Johnson has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, currently serving as the vice president and CIO of Eastern Maine Healthcare System. She spent 16 years in various positions with Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health, eventually serving as interim chief medical information officer, leading efforts to appoint CMIOs at around 50 hospitals in the system. She also helped develop Trinity's informatics and analytics strategies. In her current role with EMHS, Ms. Johnson focuses on managing and developing staff members, technology and data systems required for the health system to achieve national recognition and become a model for excellence. Scott Joslyn. Senior Vice President and CIO of MemorialCare Health Sys- tem (Fountain Valley, Calif.). As the senior vice president and CIO of Me- morialCare Health System, Mr. Joslyn oversees the health system's innova- tion efforts. He is responsible for MemorialCare's IT application to improve productivity and clinical quality while also reducing costs. During his ten- ure, Mr. Joslyn has gained experience leading MemorialCare's $100 million enterprisewide EHR rollout and has spent time on the boards of two health information exchanges. In addition to his leadership at MemorialCare, Mr. Joslyn is the co-founder and chairperson of the Southern California CIO information-sharing group CHIEF. Beverly Jordan, MSN, RN. Vice President and Chief Information and Transformation Officer of Baptist Memorial Health Care (Memphis, Tenn.). As vice president and chief information and transformation officer of Baptist Memorial Health Care, Ms. Jordan was instrumental in planning, developing and implementing systemwide IT through the 2016 merger be- tween Baptist Memorial Health Care and Mississippi Baptist Health Systems. She worked with both systems to install an EHR across hospitals and clinics as well as support applications for document management, patient account- ing and human resource functions. Prior to taking on her current role, Ms. Jordan was the chief clinical transformation officer and chief nursing officer for the system and of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Mark Kilborn. CIO of Springhill Medical Center (Mobile, Ala.). Mr. Kil- born became the area vice president of Allscripts Professional Services and CIO of Springhill Medical Center in 2000 and has since led the 252-bed hospital's IT initiatives. e hospital also replaced its core networks and enhanced mobility and engagement efforts under Mr. Kilborn's leadership. In 2015, the hospital became the first in Alabama to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 Ambulatory Award. Mark Lantzy. Senior Vice President and CIO of Indiana University Health (Indianapolis). Mr. Lantzy became senior vice president and CIO of Indiana University Health in 2016, responsible for the health system's infor- mation services. He oversees strategic planning, operations and project de- livery for the health system's hospitals, health plans and physician network. With more than 20 years of experience in health IT, Mr. Lantzy previously served as COO and CIO for Gateway Health, a managed care organization for Medicare and Medicaid, and spent time in leadership positions at Well- Care Health Plans and Aetna. Ken Lawonn. Senior Vice President and CIO of Sharp Healthcare (San Diego). As senior vice president and CIO of Sharp HealthCare, Mr. Lawonn leads the health system's IT functions and is responsible for enterprise an- alytics and cyber functions. Since joining the system in 2014, Mr. Lawonn has worked with his IT team and key customers to maintain and implement advanced technologies and support healthcare transformation. Prior to join- ing Sharp, Mr. Lawonn spent time as senior vice president for strategy and technology at Omaha, Neb.-based Alegent Creighton Health, where he was a leader in deploying technology to support integrated clinical care. Gerry Lewis. Senior Vice President and CIO of Ascension; CEO of As- cension Information Services (St. Louis). Ascension selected Mr. Lewis to serve as senior vice president and CIO as well as CEO of Ascension Information Services, an organization to provide IT services across Ascension's health sys- tem, in 2016. He spent nearly four months in the interim role before earning the permanent spot, where he manages IT operations, strategy, project execution and service delivery. He has previous experience as vice president of IT strategy and business development as well as chief data officer for AIS, where he was re- sponsible for establishing the enterprise architecture for Ascension and enhanc- ing its mobile solution framework. Philip Lous, PhD. Senior Vice President and CIO of SSM Health (St. Louis). Dr. Lous sets the IT and clinical engineering strategy for the 20-hospital SSM Health as senior vice president and CIO. He also holds re- sponsibility for the health system's supply chain, Navitus pharmacy bene- fit manager and Lumicera specialty pharmacy business. e health system currently also includes a technology company and two ACOs with 35,000 employees in four states. Prior to his time at SSM, Mr. Lous was CIO of Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care, where he led EHR implementation and developed a comprehensive IT strategy to support the health system's goal of becoming a more closely integrated delivery system. Jonathan Manis. Senior Vice President and CIO of Sutter Health (Sac- ramento). As a clinician-turned-IT leader, Mr. Manis brings a unique perspective to his role as senior vice president and CIO of Sutter Health. He joined Sutter in 2006 aer serving as the system vice president of ad- ministrative services and CIO at Mokena, Ill.-based Provena Health, which merged with Chicago-based Resurrection Health Care in 2011 to become Presence Health. A respected speaker on health technology and the au- thor of many professional articles on technology management and support function leadership, Mr. Manis has spent time on Epic's Department of Defense EHR Advisory Council. Edward Marx. CIO of Cleveland Clinic. Mr. Marx joined Cleveland Clinic as CIO in September 2017, responsible for the health system's IT strategy. He works closely with the system's caregivers and clinical partners to improve patient care through innovative technologies. roughout his more than 25 years in health IT, Mr. Marx built a reputation for leadership, serving as ex- ecutive vice president of Advisory Board Company and providing IT lead- ership and strategy for NYC Health + Hospitals. He also spent eight years as CIO of Arlington-based Texas Health Resources and five years as CIO of Cleveland-based University Hospitals. Ed McCallister. Senior Vice President and CIO of UPMC (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Mr. McCallister became senior vice president and CIO of UPMC in 2014 aer spending 15 years as director, vice president and CIO of UPMC's insurance services division. In that capacity, he helped build the systems supporting UPMC Health Plan and led the team that developed its original population health platform. In his current role, Mr. McAllister leads the information ser- vices division, a team of more than 1,500 individuals. He is also responsible for UPMC's technology strategy and infrastructure to support clinical care, insurance services, and international and commercial operations. omas McGill, MD. Vice President of Quality and Safety and CIO of Butler (Pa.) Health System. An internal medicine and infectious disease physician by training, Dr. McGill joined Butler Health System's medical staff in 1993 and rose through the ranks to his current role as chief quality and safety officer as well as CIO.
