Here are five things to know: 1. e digital platform is designed to prepare pa- tients physically, mentally and emotionally for sur- gery while connecting them with their healthcare team, ensuing customized care. Over time the sys- tem learns the patient's needs in order to adapt to a specific care plan. 2. Health Partner integrates behavior change strate- gies based on scientific evidence to increase the like- lihood patients will continue pre-and post-surgical care. Johnson & Johnson is focused on improving patients' ability to follow their care plans. 3. Health Partner consists of three connected digital tools: • A website to provide education and resources prior to undergoing surgery • A mobile app to guide patients through prepa- ration and recovery • A care portal for providers to interact with pa- tients 4. Additionally, Johnson & Johnson hopes the new system will improve outcomes, as well as reduce length of stay and readmissions. Health Partner is focused on bettering patient experience and saving costs. 5. A majority of executives and clinicians, 63 per- cent, share an interest in using behavior science to adjust expectations about how patients and their providers engage. Additionally, 92 percent are inter- ested in increasing digital tool use. n Florida Hospital 1st in US to Install Minimally Invasive Surgical Robot: 5 Notes By Mackenzie Garrity O rlando-based Florida Hospital became the first hospital in the U.S. to install TransEnterix's Senhance Surgical System, accord- ing to the Florida Trend. Here are five notes: 1. The Senhance Surgical System received FDA clearance in October. Physicians at the Florida Hospital are currently completing training on the system for clinical procedures and further training. 2. The minimally invasive surgical robot allows physicians to see patient's anatomy with 3-D visualization. Optical sensors also allow physicians to move the camera and select commands by moving their eyes. They sys- tem is the first to offer haptic feedback 3. The robot's instruments are 5 millimeters in diameter, and the system minimizes forces at the patient's skin incisions. 4. TransEnterix designed the system to allow surgeons to reuse surgical instruments, lowering costs. Physicians who use the surgical robot expe- rience shorter operating times and quicker recoveries for patients. 5. Florida Hospital is part of Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based Adventist Health System, which includes 45 hospitals across nine states. n Globus Medical Reports Positive 7-Year Results for SECURE-C vs. ACDF Trial By Megan Wood G lobus Medical reported clinical results from its sev- en-year trial follow-up on the SECURE-C Cervical Artificial Disc. SECURE-C is intended for disc re- construction and motion preser- vation at the disc under operation. The Investigational Device Ex- emption trial, inclusive of 380 pa- tients, compared the SECURE-C to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion using a cervical plate and structural allograft. The patients suffered from intractable symp- tomatic cervical disc disease at a single level. Here are seven-year, postsurgery data points: 1. Patients with the SECURE-C re- ported greater overall satisfaction compared to ACDF patients. 2. Of the SECURE-C group, 86.3 percent saw statistically superior composite overall success results compared to ACDF patients at 70 percent. 3. Eighty-six percent of the ACDF patients saw Neck Disability Index pain and function improvement compared to 90.4 percent of the SECURE-C group. 4. The SECURE-C patients experi- enced a lower rate of subsequent surgery at the operated level com- pared to ACDF patients. 5. ACDF patients had a higher rate of adjacent level surgery com- pared to SECURE-C patients. n
