34 Farzana Rashid Hossain, MD. Gastroenter- ologist at Penn Medicine (Philadelphia). A gastroenterologist by training, Dr. Hossain is building a name for herself as a female leader in her community. In August 2016, Philadel- phia Mayor Jim Kenney appointed her to the first Philadelphia Commission for Women, tasked with building relationships to help cre- ate equal opportunities for women in all levels of the city's workforce. e Philadelphia Busi- ness Journal honored her with the Women of Distinction Award in 2016; Penn Medicine named her one of its Health Care Heroes in 2015; and Castle Connolly Medical named her a top doctor in 2016 and 2017. Lindsey Ross, MD. White House Fellow to the U.S. Secretary of HHS (Washington, D.C.). Dr. Ross took leave from her senior neurological resident position at Los Ange- les-based Cedars Sinai Medical Center to serve as a science and health policy counselor with HHS. Her experience includes assisting in the U.S. Zika response plan, addressing the opioid crisis and innovating healthcare finance. While in medical school, Dr. Ross was a national leader for the Student National Medical As- sociation and founded the Women in Surgery Interest Group at the University of California, Los Angeles. e National Minority Quality Forum recognized Dr. Ross with the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health Award for 2017. Salim Saiyed, MD. Chief Medical Information Officer of CaroMont Health Plan (Gastonia, N.C.). Dr. Saiyed began his tenure as chief medi- cal information officer of CaroMont Health Plan in 2014. He was the leading force behind Caro- Mont's $70 million enterprisewide Epic EHR im- plementation, which replaced five separate EHR systems. Dr. Saiyed's efforts have saved the health system more than $2.5 million annually. In addi- tion, Dr. Saiyed formed an academic chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Joseph V. Sakran, MD. Director of Emergency General Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore). When Dr. Sakran was 17 years old, he was shot in the neck and required immediate medical attention. Aer a long recovery, he was inspired to work in medicine and dedicate his life to stopping violence. As director of emer- gency general surgery at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Sakran treats patients suffering from several forms of trauma. e American College of Sur- geons awarded him its 2014 Surgical Volunteer- ism Award for his work providing relief to tsu- nami and earthquake victims across the globe. Rebecca Segal. CEO of Rutherford Regional Health System (Rutherfordton, N.C.). Ms. Segal began her tenure as CEO of Rutherford Regional Health System, which includes a 143- bed hospital and a team of approximately 700 clinical and support staff, in January 2017 with 15 years of experience in healthcare adminis- tration. She previously served as COO of Som- erset, Ky.-based Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where she established a Patient and Family Advisory Council designed to promote patient feedback. While earning her graduate degree from Richmond-based Virginia Com- monwealth University, she received the 2010 Herman L. Mullins Award for Outstanding Management Study. Abhinav Shashank. Co-Founder and CEO of InnovAccer (Palo Alto, Calif.). Since co-founding InnovAccer in October 2012, Mr. Shashank has been named on Forbes' list of 30 Under 30–Asia. InnovAccer is a health analyt- ics company focused on its proprietary prod- uct, Datashop, which aims to simplify com- plex data generated at all points of care. Mr. Shashank developed the idea for InnovAccer while attending Harvard University in Boston and hopes the company will help organizations make business and policy decisions based on data-centric models. Mr. Shashank previously spent time leading product strategy at Dublin, Ireland-based Ingersoll Rand. John Stewart. Vice President of Millenni- um Medical (Melbourne, Fla.). Since joining Millennium Medical in 2014, Mr. Stewart has helped grow the practice from 30 employees to more than 80. He played a quintessential role in creating Melbourne-based Deuk Spine, Vi- era Orthopedics, Viera Health and Wellness, Orthopedic Urgent Care and Injury Treatment Group. Mr. Stewart manages operations for the six different Millennium Medical practices. Felicia Stokes, JD, RN. Senior Policy Advisor for the American Nurses Association. Ms. Stokes is the American Nurses Association Center for Ethics and Human Rights' senior policy advisor, a position that allows her to share expertise in public policy on ethical is- sues. She served on the board of directors for the American Society for Bioethics Human- ities Nurse Affinity Group and has expertise in bioethics, nursing ethics and substance use disorders. Outside of her professional roles, Ms. Stokes is an associate editor for the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry. e National Minority Quality Forum recognized Ms. Stokes with the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health Award for 2017. Adam acker. COO of Good Samaritan Physician Network (Vincennes, Ind.). Mr. acker joined Good Samaritan in 2013 as vice president of professional services and was pro- moted to COO in January 2016. Since begin- ning his tenure, Mr. acker has engaged more than 20 percent of the system's physicians on important systemwide decisions. He also im- plemented a balanced scorecard approach that promotes data-driven alignment systemwide. Mr. acker is a black belt in lean six sigma and a board member at his local YMCA. KaLeena omas. Vice President of Deploy- ment for e Resource Group, a subsidiary of Ascension (St. Louis). Aer joining As- cension Health in May 2009, Ms. omas was promoted to vice president of deployment for e Resource Group in June 2015. In her role, Ms. omas developed an internal deployment and consultancy, which accelerates the reali- zation of value for customers while generat- ing additional profit for e Resource Group. Ms. omas was the driving force behind e Resource Group's leadership development pro- gram, which aims to draw millennials to ca- reers in healthcare. Elizabeth Wild. Senior Vice President of Global Cancer Services at UPMC (Pitts- burgh). Ms. Wild has helped lead the devel- opment of cancer care networks in more than 50 UPMC locations worldwide. CMS selected UPMC's oncologists, who are under her direc- tion, to participate in a program focused on en- hancing quality and care coordination. Before joining UPMC, Ms. Wild was the executive vice president of Cancer Treatment Services International. Baligh Yehia, MD. Deputy Under Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Veter- ans Affairs (Washington, D.C.). In addition to helping the VA transition toward more person- alized care models, Dr. Yehia oversees the VA's Clinically Integrated Network., which has more than 475,000 federal, academic and private part- ners who provide care to more than 2 million patients each year. During Dr. Yehia's tenure, access to private care increased 17 percent re- sulting in more than 47.3 million appointments.
