Speare Memorial Hospital (Plymouth, N.H.). Speare Memorial Hospital was founded in 1899 and reopened aer a $15 million renovation in November 2006. e hospital added 23,000 square feet in the renovation to improve patient access, visitor flow and efficiency. e hospital added a sleep lab in 2010 and a wound care and hyperbaric medicine center in 2014. In more recent years, the hospital has embarked on efforts to eliminate surgical site infections and publically reports infection rate data. Steele Memorial Medical Center (Salmon, Idaho). Steele Memorial Medical Center was founded in 1950 as Steele Memorial Hospital. e 18-bed critical access hospital and its rural health clinic include more than 150 employees. In October 2004, the hospital opened a new facility with expanded services such as OB/GYN and orthopedic surgery. iVantage Health Analytics named Steele Memorial to its list of 2017 Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. Tahoe Forest Hospital (Truckee, Calif.). Tahoe Forest Hospital is a nonprofit rural healthcare facility designated as a critical access hospital with 25 acute care beds and 36 long-term beds. e hospital covers six rural counties and around 3,500 square miles. Tahoe Forest Hospital was founded in 1951 and has grown to include an ambulatory surgery center, emergency services and intensive care. Tomah (Wis.) Memorial Hospital. e 29-bed Tomah Memorial Hospital was established in 1952 and has grown into a 57-bed facility with an eight- bed hospice and palliative care unit. In 2005, the hospital underwent a $10 million construction and renovation project to add MRI services and embarked on another $66 million project to build a new medical office in 2014. iVantage Health Analytics named Tomah Memorial Hospital among its Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. in 2016. Transylvania Regional Hospital (Brevard, N.C.). Two physicians devised a plan to open Transylvania Regional Hospital in 1933 as a nonprofit institution governed by a board of trustees. In 2008, the hospital opened a new $18 million inpatient wing and, in 2012, it became a full member of Mission Health. iVantage Health Analytics named Transylvania Regional Hospital among its 100 Top Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. in 2017. University Hospitals Geneva (Ohio) Medical Center. University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center serves a community spanning more than a 20 mile radius. e hospital was originally established in 1906 as an emergency hospital and has since grown into a federally designated critical access hospital with inpatient and outpatient services, as well as 25 specialties. e hospital achieved the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders designation, reflecting its organizational commitment to the quality care of older adults. Waldo County General Hospital (Belfast, Maine). Waldo County General Hospital is a member of the Coastal Healthcare Alliance and Portland, Maine-based MaineHealth. e 25-bed nonprofit critical access hospital opened in 1901 and added a $2.1 million surgical services wing in November 2016. e hospital includes an inpatient hospice suite and an imaging center. iVantage Health Analytics named Waldo County General Hospital among the 2017 Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. West River Regional Medical Center (Hettinger, N.D.). West River Regional Medical Center includes 20 acute care beds and a swingbed unit, as well as a two-bed intensive care unit and four outpatient rooms. e hospital is part of West River Health Services, a rural healthcare organization with 16 physicians and six community clinics in addition to the hospital. iVantage Health Analytics named West River Regional Medical Center among its Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in 2017. Whitman Hospital and Medical Center (Colfax, Wash.). Whitman Hospital and Medical Center serves a 1,200-square-mile district and includes 47 physicians. e 25-bed critical access hospital opened in 1968 and is governed by five elected commissioners who serve six-year terms. e National Rural Health Association named Whitman Hospital and Medical Center one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. in 2013 and 2014, and iVantage Health Analytics named the hospital a Healthstrong Hospital in 2014. Winneshiek Medical Center (Decorah, Iowa). Winneshiek Medical Center is a nonprofit critical access hospital and clinic owned by the citizens of Winneshiek County. e clinic became the first Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System site in 1992 and the hospital is currently staffed by physicians from Mayo and Gundersen Lutheran Clinic in Ossian, Iowa. iVantage Health Analytics named Winneshiek Medical Center among its Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in 2017. n
