27 QUALITY & ACCREDITATION The Joint Commission Deletes 135 Performance Elements for Ambulatory, Office-based Surgery Programs By Eric Oliver T he Joint Commission removed 85 ele- ments of performance evaluation from its Ambulatory Health Care accredi- tation program and 50 elements of perfor- mance evaluation from its Office-Based Surgery programs, Ambulatory Buzz reports. e deleted EPs were: • Duplicative • In place for years, but address now routine concepts • No longer addressed quality and safety concerns • Addressed by other laws and regulations e Joint Commission's Division of Stan- dards and Survey Method's Joyce Webb said in the blog, "Frankly, we discovered these EPs were no longer needed. ere a lot of things organizations do to make sure they provide safe and effective patient care, but not everything needs to be addressed through a Joint Commission requirement. e changes we've made here will help orga- nizations focus on what's most important." e deletions will be effective July 1, 2017. A full list will be available in e Joint Com- mission's monthly newsletter Perspectives. n 28 Physician-owned Hospitals That Patients Would Definitely Recommend By Laura Dyrda T hese 28 physician-owned hospitals received 92 percent or more of their patients reporting on HCAHPS surveys that they would definitely recom- mend the hospital; the national average is 72 percent. The numbers were pulled from CMS' Hospital Compare website with data compiled from July 2015 through June 2016, the most recent data available. The hospitals with fewer than 100 completed surveys weren't considered for the list. 1. Patients' Hospital of Redding (Calif.) — 99 percent 2. Oklahoma Heart Hospital (Oklahoma City) — 96 percent 3.
