12 100 Great Community Hospitals | 2017 By Laura Dyrda, Tamara Rosin, Megan Wood and Morgan Haefner Becker's Hospital Review is pleased to release the 2017 edition of its 100 Great Community Hospitals list. is list includes independent community hospitals as well as facilities affiliated with large health systems. Some hospitals serve expansive rural geographies while others care for small communities outside of large metropolitan cities. Many of these hospitals have been recognized for their clinical quality, operational excellence and economic impact on the surrounding area. For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines a com- munity hospital as a facility with no more than 550 beds. e Becker's editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards from organizations such as the National Rural Health Association, iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analyt- ics, Healthgrades, CareChex, the American Nurses Credentialing Cen- ter and the Leapfrog Group. Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital features DuPage County's only Level I trau- ma center, a certified Level III neonatal intensive care unit and Magnet recognition for nursing excellence. Advocate Good Samaritan earned the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2010 and remains the only healthcare organization in Illinois to receive the recognition. e hospital, established in 1976, is part of Downers Grove-based Advocate Health Care. Alhambra (Calif.) Hospital Medical Center. Alhambra Hospital Med- ical Center is the first solely Chinese-owned hospital in Southern Cali- fornia. e 144-bed general acute care hospital was established in 1924 and moved to its current location in 1974. Alhambra Hospital has 600 employees and maintains a professional staff of more than 300 physi- cians across 32 specialties. In 2016, Truven Health Analytics named it among the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation. Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center (Medford, Ore.). Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center is the flagship hospital of the Med- ford-based Asante health system. U.S. News & World Report ranked the 378-bed regional referral and trauma center No. 6 in Oregon and as high performing in seven conditions and procedures for 2016-17. is year, Truven Health Analytics named Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center to its list of 100 Top Hospitals for the fih time. Aspirus Riverview Hospital (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.). Wisconsin Rap- ids community leaders joined together in 1912 to establish Aspirus Riv- erview Hospital. In 2016, the hospital earned Healthgrades' Outstanding Patient Experience Award, and received the organization's America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement award from 2015 to 2017. Augusta Health (Fishersville, Va.). Augusta Health opened its doors to patients in 1994. Today, the hospital houses 255 beds and its staff in- cludes 200 active physicians. Augusta Health has been named to Health- grades' list of America's 50 Best Hospitals each year from 2015 to 2017. is year, the hospital also earned Healthgrades' awards for joint re- placement, orthopedic surgery and pulmonary care excellence. Aurora BayCare Medical Center (Green Bay, Wis.). e 167-bed Au- rora BayCare Medical Center is part of a joint venture between Milwau- kee-based Aurora Health Care and Green Bay-based BayCare Clinic. Established in 2001, Aurora BayCare is the No. 7 hospital in Wisconsin, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 2016-17. Truven Health An- alytics named Aurora BayCare a 100 Top Hospital for the third time in 2016. e American Heart Association granted Aurora BayCare the first Mission: Lifeline Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation in Wis- consin in 2013, and reaccredited it in 2015. e hospital also received the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer 2014 Out- standing Achievement Award. Avera Queen of Peace Hospital (Mitchell, S.D.). Avera Queen of Peace Hospital was established by the Presentation Sisters faith community in 1906 as 35-bed St. Joseph Hospital. e hospital took on its current name in 2000 with the formation of Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera Health. e National Rural Health Association named the hospital among the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in 2017. Bear River Valley Hospital (Tremonton, Utah). Bear River Valley Hospital's roots date back to 1923 when a physician opened e Whit- lock Hospital in a two-story home in Garland, Utah. Today, the 16-bed hospital is part of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare. Bear River Valley Hospital is a Level IV trauma center. In 2016, the National Rural Health Association named the hospital among the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the U.S. Blanchard Valley Hospital (Findlay, Ohio). e 150-bed Blanchard Valley Hospital has treated patients of Northwest Ohio for more than 125 years. e hospital is the flagship facility of Blanchard Valley Health System, which is one of the largest employers in the region. Health- grades has recognized Blanchard Valley with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award annually from 2015 to 2017 and the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence in 2015 and 2016. is year, Tru- ven Health Analytics named the hospital as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation for the fih consecutive year. Bozeman (Mont.) Health Deaconess Hospital. Bozeman Health Dea- coness Hospital is the flagship facility of Bozeman Health, which serves communities throughout Southwestern Montana. e hospital houses 86 beds, operates a Level III trauma center and has 200 physicians and health professionals on staff representing more than 35 specialties. is year, Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital was named among the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals by the National Rural Health Association. Bozeman Health Deaconess earned numerous awards from Healthgrades in 2017, including those for excellence in heart and pulmonary care. Brookings (S.D.) Health System. Brookings Health System includes a 49-bed hospital with three operating rooms, a 79-bed skilled nursing home, a senior living facility and several clinics. e nonprofit hospital opened as a 21-bed facility in 1907.
