8 ASC MANAGEMENT Colorado ASC Involved in $14.9M Lawsuit Over Paralyzed Patient By Mary Rechtoris A judge ruled against e Surgery Center at Lone Tree (Colo.) in a $14.9 million verdict aer a patient received an injection that allegedly paralyzed her from the waist down, according to Denver Business Journal. Here are six things to know: 1. e patient received an epidural steroid injection filled with Kenalog in September 2013, which caused a spinal cord infarction, the Denver Business Journal reports. 2. Kenalog manufacturers started listing "Not for epidural use" on its warning label in 2011. During the trial, the patient's attorneys showed the jury similar bottles available at the surgery center with the warning. 3. e patient's attorneys said ASC personnel did not inform the pa- tient about the warning label prior to the injection. 4. Denver Business Journal reported this case is the second largest neg- ligence verdict in the state to date. 5. Attorneys representing the surgery center filed an unopposed mo- tion to allow resolution of post-trial motions before entering judg- ment and setting a briefing schedule. 6.
