Here are 10 facts and statistics relating to compensation, benefits and a regional salary breakdown: 1. Gastroenterologists make $391,000 on av- erage including salary, bonuses and profit- sharing contributions. 2. Gastroenterologists, neurologists and gy- necologists reported a 3 percent pay increase from 2016 to 2017. 3. Foreign-trained gastroenterologists make more ($409,000) than their U.S. counterparts ($384,000) on average. 4. Concerning gender by race/ethnicity breakdown: Black/African American Men — 60 percent Women — 40 percent Asian Men — 72 percent Women — 28 percent Hispanic Men — 76 percent Women — 24 percent White Men — 87 percent Women — 13 percent 5. Compensation by geographical area was: Northwest — $564,000 North Central — $477,000 Great Lakes — $436,000 Southeast — $401,000 West — $391,000 Northeast — $371,000 Southwest — $365,000 Mid-Atlantic — $362,000 South Central — $345,000 6. Self-employed gastroenterologists make more ($434,000) than employed gastroenter- ologists ($350,000). 7. Here's what you should know. 1. Gastroenterology Consultants has nine physicians and two locations in Florida. In addition, Gastro Health is acquiring Gastroenterology Consultant's anesthesia ancillary service, GCPA Anesthesia Services. 2. Gastro Health said the acquisition is the largest in its history. 3. Gastroenterology Consultants will become Gastro Health's 25th South Florida location and its second Broward County location. 4. Gastro Health expects the practice to become part of the Gastro Health brand in August 2017. n CMS Adds Cologuard to Medicare Advantage Star Ratings Program: 4 Key Notes By Eric Oliver CMS included Madison, Wis.-based Exact Sciences' Cologuard in its Medicare Advantage Star Ratings program. Here's what you should know. 1. CMS will assign a star rating to Cologuard based on how many Medicare Advantage beneficiaries complete the colon cancer screening test. 2. Exact Sciences CEO Kevin Conroy said the company was pleased CMS included Cologuard in the star rating program. He added the incentive payers can take from the star program should "broaden adoption of Cologuard over time." 3. CMS is awarding Medicare Advantage plans credit for Colo- guard tests taken every year since 2014. 4. Mr. Conroy said Cologuard's "unique characteristics can help Medicare Advantage plans provide better colon cancer screen- ing to their patients, while helping increase their star ratings." n
