18 JOINT VENTURES Hospital for Special Surgery to Open HSS ASC of Manhattan in June: 5 Things to Know By Laura Dyrda H ospital for Special Surgery plans to open the HSS ASC of Man- hattan in June. Here are five things to know: 1. David S. Levine, MD, a foot and ankle surgeon at HSS, will be the surgery center's new medical director. e center will focus on extremi- ties care and sports medicine procedures. 2. e 22,425-square-foot facility is located a short distance from the main HSS campus and includes four operating rooms as well as 16 pre- and postsurgical bays. 3. e center's senior director Bryan Guss, RN, BSN, will join HSS from Northern Westchester Hospital. 4. ere are 10 sports medicine specialists who will perform cases at the center; five foot and ankle surgeons and five hand and upper ex- tremity surgeons. An additional 20 specialty surgeons and three anes- thesiologists will provide care. 5. Surgeons will still perform ambulatory surgery cases on the HSS main campus, but the new ASC will be an additional surgical location option for patients. "For nearly three decades HSS has been leading the field of orthope- dics and rheumatology in quality and patient experience," said Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of HSS. "HSS is more than a hospital and we're constantly working to identify new ways to make better quality care more accessible through research, innovation and locations like this new ASC." n Rush University Medical Center to Break Ground on $65M Building With ASC: 5 Points By Mary Rechtoris C hicago-based Rush University Medical Center broke ground on its new outpatient medical build- ing in Oak Brook, Ill., according to Daily Herald. Here are five points: 1. The $65 million outpatient medical building will fea- ture an ASC. The three-story facility is 100,000 square feet. 2. The surgery center will be on the third floor and pro- viders will offer musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and other surgical procedures. 3. The ASC will feature six operating rooms and two pro- cedure rooms. 4. The medical office building will offer 17 specialties and outpatient surgical suites, 65 exam rooms, physical and occupational therapy and full imaging services. 5. Rush expects to open the facility in spring 2019. n SurgCenter Development Pushes Proposal for $4.5M ASC in Michigan — 5 Highlights By Mary Rechtoris P ismo Beach, Calif.-based SurgCenter Development is aiming to increase its ASC presence with a new surgery center in Zeeland, Mich., according to MiBiz. Here are five highlights: 1. The ASC management company submitted plans to reno- vate an office building in Zeeland, Mich., for West Michigan Surgical Center. 2. West Michigan Surgical Center would feature one operat- ing room and two procedure rooms. 3. SurgCenter Development's ASC costs $4.5 million. 4. The center would be its third in the state. 5. The company's Vice President of Development Stephanie Leventis said to MiBiz, "If there are more opportunities than present in Michigan, we're open to looking at them. We defi- nitely are open to other developments. If we have interested physicians and we get a group of committed physicians, that's what we're looking for." n
