30 TOTAL JOINT SECTION Stryker Launches Mako Total Knee Replacement Application: 5 Key Notes By Laura Dyrda S tryker launched the total knee replace- ment application for the Mako System ro- botic arm. Here are five things to know: 1. The Mako Total Knee includes Stryker's ro- botic technology and the Triathlon Total Knee System. 2. Robotic technology is designed for surgeons to perform a more precise and predictable procedure with increased accuracy. The system includes a CT-based 3-D modeling capability to personalize the procedure to the patient's unique anatomy. 3. The robot assists with bone resections and surgeons can modify the surgical plan intraop- eratively. 4. Surgeons are already using the Mako robotic arm for partial knee replacement and total hip replacements; more than 83,000 procedures used the Mako robotic arm through 2016. 5. There are more than 350 Mako systems in the United States and more than 1,400 total knee replacements have been performed with the technology to date. n 8 Orthopedic-Driven ASCs Making Headlines By Mary Rechtoris H ere are eight orthopedic-driven surgery centers that have opened or made news in January and February 2017. New York City-based Hospital for Specialty Surgery and Stamford (Conn.) Health are partnering to expand orthopedic services throughout Connecticut. rough the part- nership, HSS will staff Stamford-based Tully Health Center and begin seeing ambulatory surgery patients. Developers are awaiting final approval from the Auburn (N.H.) Planning Board to build Ac- cess Ambulatory Medical in Auburn. e proposed surgery center will mainly offer or- thopedic services and various otolaryngology surgeries. SurgCenter of St. Lucie (Fla.) opened in Janu- ary 2017. Six surgeons specializing in fields in- cluding spine and orthopedics offer services at the ASC. Centralia, Ill.-based St. Mary's Hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the open- ing of its orthopedic surgery center. OrthoSports Athens (Ala.) and Athens-Lime- stone Hospital started construction on a new facility featuring an ASC. e ASC will be three stories and will house six operating rooms. Ortho Montana, St. Vincent Health- care and Yellowstone Surgery Center, all based in Billings, Mont., are expanding their services through Montana Ambulatory Care Campus in Billings. e campus will offer ser- vices including orthopedic, nonsurgical spine and physical therapy. Vero Orthopaedics & Neurology in Vero Beach, Fla., opened an ASC, which will offer spine, elbow, knee, foot, ankle, hand, shoulder and wrist surgery. e facility will also include sports medicine and interventional pain man- agement services. Lancaster (Ohio) Specialty Surgery Cen- ter opened its doors in January 2017.
