5 Key NoteS
By Laura Dyrda
A
mbulatory Care Center for Excellence in Surgical
Services in Danville, Ill., will close at the end of
the month, according to a report from The News-
Gazette.
Here are five things to know:
1. The surgery center reported losing more than $1 mil-
lion per year for the two years prior to announcing its
intentions to close. The surgery center included orthope-
dics, gastroenterology, gynecology, vascular surgery and
plastic surgery in addition to anesthesiology.
2. The surgery center plans to close pending Illinois state
regulatory approval. The surgery center is a Presence
Health facility. Presence United Samaritans Medical Cen-
ter acquired the surgery center, formerly known as Dan-
ville HealthCare, in 2012.
3. Presence Health's regional president and CEO Jared
Rogers, MD, reported the surgery center's closure won't
impact access to care for Danville residents because Unit-
ed Samaritans will continue to perform those procedures.
4. According to The News-Gazette, many of the surgery
center's employees have accepted positions elsewhere.
5. Presence Health's application for closure cited low
utilization as the reason for closure. The center has three
surgical suites, office space and recovery rooms.
