Billings Clinic is equipped with a 20-suite birthing center, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and a Level II emergency and trauma center. Bon Secours-St. Francis Hospital (Charleston, S.C.). Bon Secours-St. Francis Hospital got its start in 1882 as the St. Francis Infirmary in downtown Charleston, the first Catholic hospital in South Carolina. e 204-bed hospital has earned Magnet-designation for excellence in nursing and was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 2 hospital in the state for 2016-17. e hospital earned a 5-star rating from CMS in fall 2016 and was named a Truven Health Analytics Top 100 Hospital for 2016. Boston Children's Hospital. e 404-bed Boston Children's Hospital is one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States. e hospital sees approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions every year. In 2016, surgeons at the hospital performed more than 26,500 procedures. For 2016-17, U.S. News & World Report ranked Boston Children's Hos- pital the No. 1 children's hospital in the U.S. In 1954, Boston Children's researcher John Enders, PhD, and colleagues were awarded the Nobel Prize for culturing the polio virus, which facilitated Jonas Salk and Al- bert Sabin's vaccine creation. Boston Medical Center. Boston Medical Center is a not-for-profit aca- demic medical center and, with 72 percent of its patients coming from underserved populations, the largest provider of safety-net healthcare in New England. e hospital is staffed by more than 740 physicians and outfitted with nearly 500 beds. In 2016, the hospital experienced 25,328 inpatient admissions. BMC is the principal teaching hospital of Boston University School of Medicine. Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston). An international destina- tion for healthcare, Brigham and Women's Hospital includes 150 out- patient practices and serves patients from across the United States and more than 120 countries from around the globe. BWH has more than 1,200 physicians across its outpatient practices. With more than $640 million in total research funding and 1,000 principal investigators, the BWH Research Institute is the second largest recipient of research fund- ing from the National Institutes of Health among independent hospi- tals in the United States. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital among the top 20 in the nation and as a top performer in 12 adult spe- cialties for 2016-17. Carilion Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital. With 703 beds and a 60- bed neonatal intensive care unit, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in the state. In 2017, Healthgrades recognized Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with its Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. e hospital is a part of Carilion Clinic, which includes 240 practice sites, serving an area of approximately 1 million Virginians. Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte, N.C.). Founded in the 1940s as Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center now serves as the flagship hospital for Charlotte-based Carolinas HealthCare System. e hospital was nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in one adult specialty and four pediatric specialties for 2016-17. For the past three years, Healthgrades recognized the hospital for specialty excel- lence with its Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Awards. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is one of the largest nonprofit academic medical centers in the United States, boasting 886 licensed beds, 2,100 physicians, 2,800 nurses and thousands of healthcare workers and employees. From July 1, 2015 through June 20, 2016, the hospital saw 49,690 admissions and 89,371 emergency room visits. In 1976, art collectors with personal ties to the hospital made significant art donations to Cedars-Sinai allowing the hospital to accumulate an exceptional art collection that now includes more than 4,000 pieces from artistic icons like Andy Warhol, Pablo Pi- casso and Salvador Dalí. U.S. News & World Report ranked it among the top 20 hospitals in the nation for 2016-17. Centura Health-Porter Adventist Hospital (Denver). Porter Adventist Hospital has served the people of Denver and the surrounding commu- nities since 1930. e hospital is now equipped with 368 beds and staffed by 936 affiliated physicians. In fiscal year 2016, the hospital saw more than 10,000 admissions. e hospital is known for providing quality care across a range of complex specialties including heart, cancer, and hand and eye care. Charleston (W.Va.) Area Medical Center. This complex of Charles- ton-area hospitals is the flagship institution of the CAMC Health System, which employs nearly 7,000 people and includes CAMC General Hospital, CAMC Memorial Hospital, CAMC Teays Valley Hospital and CAMC Women and Children's Hospital. U.S. News & World Report ranked CAMC as the No. 1 hospital in West Virginia in 2016-17. For 2017, Healthgrades named CAMC Memorial one of America's 100 Best Hospitals. CHI St. Luke's Health — Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (Hous- ton). Opened in 1954 as St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is equipped with 850 beds and 3,919 employees, includ- ing 1,555 registered nurses. e hospital was the first in Texas and the Southwest to earn Magnet designation for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2001. Partnered with Hous- ton's Baylor College of Medicine and engaged in several other academic affiliations, Baylor St. Luke's is home to groundbreaking clinical research with hundreds of patients enrolled in trials for heart, liver, cancer and neurovascular diseases, among other health conditions. CHI St. Vincent Infirmary (Little Rock, Ark.). CHI St. Vincent Infir- mary got its start in 1888 as the 10-bed Charity Hospital and has since blossomed into the flagship hospital of CHI St. Vincent Health System and the No. 1 hospital in Arkansas for 2016-17, as rated by U.S. News & World Report. e CHI St. Vincent health system is staffed by more than 4,000 employees and saw 35,574 inpatient admissions in fiscal year 2016. In January 2013, CHI St. Vincent Infirmary became the first hos- pital in Arkansas to earn Magnet designation for excellence in nursing leadership. Children's Hospital Los Angeles. is pediatric hospital began in 1901 in a tiny house in the Los Angeles neighborhood now known as China- town and has since grown into a 495-bed hospital of national renown. U.S. News & World Report named CHLA the No. 7 pediatric hospital in the nation on its 2016-17 honor roll. CHLA was the first pediatric hospi- tal established in Southern California and annually provides more than $232.6 million in community benefits, including charity medical care, to children and families. Children's Hospital Colorado (Aurora). With more than a century of experience in pediatric care and 16 locations in Colorado staffed by more than 3,000 pediatric care experts, Children's Hospital Colorado cares for more children than any other hospital in a seven-state region. Aer undergoing multiple expansions in the hospital's downtown Denver lo- cation, the children's hospital unveiled its new 1.79-million-square-foot Aurora hospital in 2007.
