These executives are leading their organizations through healthcare's technology revolution, overseeing EHR installations, new patient portals and telemedicine advancements while work- ing to keep data secure from breaches. They have received vari- ous awards and maintain involvement in organizations such as the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. e Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected leaders for this list based on editorial research and discretion, including prominent CIOs and those who head up IT for some of the nation's largest and most respected hospitals and health systems. Nominations were also considered. Note: is list is not an endorsement of included hospitals, health systems or associated providers. Leaders could not pay for inclusion on this list. Leaders are presented in alphabetical order. Michael Archuleta. Director of IT for Mt. San Rafael Hospital (Trin- idad, Colo.). Mr. Archuleta joined Mt. San Rafael Hospital, a critical access hospital, as director of IT in 2012. Since then, he has served on the board of directors for the Colorado chapter of HIMSS, the career devel- opment committee for CHIME and the Neural Network CXO advisory board for Netapp, a storage and data management company. Mary Alice Annecharico, RN. Senior Vice President and CIO of Henry Ford Health System (Detroit). In 2011, Ms. Annecharico was appointed senior vice president and CIO of Henry Ford Health System. Before joining Henry Ford, she was CIO of the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia and CIO of Cleveland-based University Hospitals. Ms. Annecharico, a fellow of HIMSS, is editor of HIMSS' digital publication, Journal of Health Information Management. Pamela Arora. Senior Vice President and CIO of Children's Health System of Texas (Dallas). Ms. Arora, who joined the Children's Health System of Texas in 2007, oversees technology, health information man- agement and biomedical technology and systems for the health system. She has more than 30 years of IT experience and holds memberships with HIMSS, CHIME and the Children's Hospital Association. Under Ms. Arora's leadership, Children's Health System of Texas was named to the InformationWeek 500 list in 2013, the InformationWeek Elite 100 list in 2016 and Hospitals & Health Networks' Most Wired list in 2016. Pamela Banchy, RN. CIO of Western Reserve Hospital (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio). Ms. Banchy, who has more than 15 years of health IT expe- rience, joined Western Reserve Hospital in 2012. In this role, she devel- ops IT solutions for the Midwest hospital. Her previous experience in- cludes time as system director of clinical information systems for Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System. Ms. Banchy holds a certification in nursing informatics, is a certified project management professional and holds memberships with CHIME and HIMSS. Daniel Barchi. CIO of NewYork-Presbyterian (New York City). Mr. Barchi, who joined NewYork-Presbyterian in 2015, led the hospital's telehealth program implementation, which formally launched in 2016. Prior to his current role, Mr. Barchi was senior vice president and CIO of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System and Yale School of Medicine. In his role at Yale, he implemented EHRs across the health system and launched an iPhone app for physician communication. Gary Barnes. Senior Vice President and CIO of Medical Center Health System (Odessa, Texas). Mr. Barnes, who has been with Medi- cal Center Health System for 30 years, took on his current role in 2015. Prior to joining Medical Center Health System, he was a system analyst at IBM. He holds memberships with CHIME and HIMSS and is a cer- tified professional in healthcare information and management systems. Chris Belmont. Vice President and CIO of University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston). Mr. Belmont, who has more than 30 years of health IT experience, joined University of Texas MD Ander- son Cancer Center in 2013 and has since led the center through technol- ogy overhauls such as a systemwide Epic EHR implementation. Prior to joining the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, he was the system vice president and CIO of Ochsner Health System in New Orle- ans and held positions at IBM and Munich-based Siemens. David Bensema, MD. CIO of Baptist Health (Louisville, Ky.). Dr. Ben- sema was appointed CMIO of Baptist Health in 2013. In 2014, he was named CIO of Baptist Health. As CIO, he led Baptist Health's system- wide Epic EHR implementation. Prior to focusing his career on exec- utive leadership, Dr. Bensema spent 16 years in private practice as an internal medicine physician. Julie Berry. CIO of Steward Health Care System (Boston). Ms. Berry, who has more than 20 years of healthcare technology experi- ence, has been the CIO of Steward Health Care System since 2013. Prior to the CIO role, she was the system's vice president and chief technology officer. Ms. Berry was previously a member of the IT executive teams of Boston-based Partners HealthCare System and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Nancy Birschbach. Vice President and CIO of Agnesian HealthCare (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Ms. Birschbach has been with Agnesian Health- Care since 1998 and currently is vice president and CIO. In her nearly 20 years with Agnesian, she's been information security officer, director of information technology and assistant president of IT. Ms. Birschbach holds a master's degree in organizational leadership and quality from Fond du Lac-based Marian University. John Bosco. Senior Vice President and CIO of Northwell Health (Great Neck, N.Y.). Mr. Bosco, who has spent his career in IT man- agement, joined Northwell Health in 2004 as vice president and chief technology officer. In his current role, he oversees technology purchases, establishes IT policies and ensures security and regulatory compliance of technology systems. Prior to joining Northwell Health, Mr. Bosco was senior information technology executive with Ernst & Young. James Brady, PhD. Area CIO of Kaiser Permanente Orange County (Calif.). Dr. Brady joined Kaiser Permanente Orange County in 2013 and has since won the Los Angeles Business Journal 2015 CIO of the Year Award and the HIMSS 2015 Distinguished Fellows Service Award. Prior to his position at Kaiser Permanente Orange County, he was the chief information security officer and director of technical services at Hono- lulu-based Hawaii Health Systems Corp. Robert Brandner. CIO of Spectrum Health Systems (Worcester, Mass.). Mr. Brandner, who joined Spectrum Health Systems in 2015, is the system's first CIO. He supports the organization's business opera- tions through the development and implementation of IT services and ensures the system's compliance with healthcare security and privacy regulations. Prior to joining Spectrum Health Systems, Mr. Brandner worked at Dell Computers in IT enterprise architecture.
