51 36 ASCs With 23-Hour Stays Ambulatory Surgical Center of Stevens Point (Wis.). e Ambulatory Surgical Center of Stevens Point opened in 2006 and in 2010 began performing total joint procedures and thus offering an overnight stay program for pa- tients when necessary. is is a multispecialty surgery center that performs knee replace- ment, shoulder replacement, hip replacement and some spine procedures that may necessi- tate the patient remaining up to 23 hours. "Our 23-hour stay program provides patients with one-on-one nursing case, catered meals and an enclosed room which was specifically built for this patient population," says Administrator Becky Ziegler-Otis RHIA, CPHQ CHC CASC. e center services the community with the following specialties: urology, podiatry, oph- thalmology, pain management, general sur- gery, spine and orthopedics. Bailey Square Surgery Center (Austin, Texas). e surgery center includes 23-hour stay capa- bilities and features 12 operating rooms and two endoscopy suites. Founded in 1973, the facility was the state's first freestanding ambu- latory surgery center. Its physician team per- forms more than 11,000 surgeries annually in a number of specialties, including ENT, general surgery, gynecology and ophthalmology. Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Surgery Center (Cincinnati). Beacon Or- thopaedics & Sports Medicine's ambulatory surgery center is equipped with 23-hour stay rooms for patients who need extended recov- ery. e surgery center is accredited by the AAAHC and includes viewing rooms where families can see the operating room environ- ment and watch the procedure as its being performed. Beacon Orthopaedics offers MRI, DEXA bone density scanners and X-ray as well as physical therapy and athletic trainers. Or- thopedic surgeons have a special interest in to- tal joint replacement, arthroscopic procedures and sports medicine. e practice also includes a spine center and partners with Chiropractic Care. Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center (Bed- ford, N.H.) e facility does offer 23-hour stay capabilities for certain patients. It is an AAAHC-accredited facility and is privately owned by physicians. Bedford was established in 1993 and is affiliated with most major HMOs and PPOs. It contains four major operating rooms that are fully equipped. Additionally, there is a suite designated for gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. Carlsbad (Calif.) Surgery Center. e surgery center is able to offer patients 23-hour stay op- tions. It was opened in 2009 and is accredited by the AAAHC. It is a member of the California Ambulatory Surgery Association and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. e center's medical staff have expertise in ENT, general surgery, spine orthopedics, pain man- agement and vascular surgery. Cedar Lake Surgery Center (Biloxi, Mis.). Ce- dar Lakes Surgery Center was established in 1977 as the first freestanding outpatient surgery center in Mississippi. It has since grown into a 16,000-squre-foot facility that can accommo- date 23-hour stays. Technology at the surgery center includes the Intstatrac sinus surgery computer system, laser technology and ad- vanced arthroscopy equipment. e ASC also includes procedure areas for endoscopy and pain management. e surgery center is wholly physician-owned and houses the first surgi- cal suite dedicated to performing and teaching balloon sinuplasty techniques. Surgeons at the center have a special interest in internal medi- cine, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, orthopedics and otolaryngology. Centrum Surgical Center (Englewood, Colo.). Centrum Surgical Center includes six preop- erative stations, one pediatric preoperative sta- tion and four operating rooms. e center can accommodate for patients who need 23-hour stays and includes a closed anesthesia staff with radiology capabilities onsite. e surgery cen- ter includes orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, urology, pain management, ENT, ophthalmol- ogy and oral surgery. e ASC was founded in 1994 and is accredited by the AAAHC. It is a HealthOne facility. Creekside Surgery Center (Anchorage, Alas- ka). e surgery center offers 23-hour stays and has the capability of discharging the pa- tient to an assisted living facility that is able to accommodate a longer stay. "Creekside started providing overnight stays in 2011," says Sue Sumpter, administrator/executive director at the center. "For patients to stay at the facility, we offered shi differential to our nursing staff to work a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shi. We arranged for meals with a local caterer."
