24 Steven Packer, MD. President and CEO of Community Hospital of the Monterey (Calif.) Peninsula. Dr. Packer was named president and CEO of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the Com- munity Hospital Foundation in January 1999. Before his appointment, Dr. Packer held other leadership roles at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, including chief of staff and medical director. He graduated from UCSF School of Medicine, where he completed train- ing in internal medicine. Aerward, Dr. Packer completed a critical care fellowship at UC Irvine. Dr. Packer is a member of AOA Medical Honor Society and is a distinguished fellow of CSU Monterey Bay. L. Reuven Pasternak, MD. CEO of Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Hospital. Stony Brook University Hospital named Dr. Pasternak vice president for health systems and CEO of the hospital in September 2012. Previously, he served for four years as CEO of the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., and executive vice president of academic affairs. He also spent time as executive vice president and CMO of the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati. Dr. Pasternak completed a residency in pediatrics and community medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a fellowship in pediatric clinical care at Johns Hop- kins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, where he additionally completed a residency in anesthesiology. David C. Pate, MD, JD. President and CEO of St. Luke's Health System (Boise, Idaho). Dr. Pate, a physician and lawyer by training, joined St. Luke's Health System in 2009. Previously, he held numerous positions at St. Luke's Episcopal Health System in Houston, last serving as executive vice president and CEO of the system's flagship hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Before becoming a hospital administra- tor, Dr. Pate was a practicing general internist and served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Houston Law Center in the Health Law & Policy Institute. Ronald Paulus, MD. President and CEO of Mission Health System (Asheville, N.C.). At the helm of Mission Health System, Dr. Paulus oversees operations of the $1.4 billion, six-hospital enterprise. Prior to joining Mission in September 2010, Dr. Paulus served as executive vice president of clinical operations at Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System. He also served as Geisinger's chief innovation officer. He has also spent time as president and CEO of CareScience, a clinical solutions and data analytics provider that he co-founded, which is now part of Premier. Charles Peck, MD. President and CEO of Athens (Ga.) Regional Health System. Dr. Peck was named interim CEO of Athens Region- al Health System in September 2014 and was then appointed president and CEO in March 2015. His 30-year healthcare career includes clini- cal, executive, entrepreneurial and academic experience. Before joining Athens, Dr. Peck was a managing director with Navigant Consulting. He also previously served as president and CEO of Health Inventures, a surgical and physician services company serving ambulatory surgery centers, surgical hospitals and physician practices. Dr. Peck is a licensed internist and rheumatologist. Joseph Pepe, MD. President and CEO of Catholic Medical Center (Manchester, N.H.). Dr. Pepe, a board-certified internist, has served as president and CEO of Catholic Medical Center since January 2012. Be- fore being appointed to his current role, Dr. Pepe served as the hospital's CMO. He began his career as a clinician at Catholic Medical Center in 1990. As CEO, Dr. Pepe oversees operations for the 330-bed medical center, the New England Heart and Vascular Institute and several sub- sidiaries, including primary and specialty care practices, urgent care and an ambulatory surgery partnership with 30 independent physicians and surgeons. John Popovich Jr., MD. President and CEO of Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit). Dr. Popovich, who was named CEO in June 2010, is the first physician to lead 805-bed Henry Ford Hospital as president and CEO in more than 40 years. He joined Henry Ford Hospital, the flagship hospital of Henry Ford Health System, in 1980 as a senior staff physician. Since then, he served for 10 years as division head of pulmonary and criti- cal care medicine before becoming chair of the department of internal medicine in 1999. He was promoted to senior vice president for clinical affairs in 2008, during which he led the development of the Henry Ford Physician Network. Currently, Dr. Popovich also serves as CEO and chair of the board of the network, as well as a professor at Wayne State University's School of Medicine in Detroit. Roy Proujansky, MD. Executive Vice President and CEO of Nemours Delaware Valley Operations (Wilmington). In 2013, Dr. Proujansky was appointed CEO of Nemours Delaware Valley Operations, which encompasses Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Nemours duPont Pediatrics in Wilmington. Dr. Proujansky joined Ne- mours in 1989 when he took on the role of chief of the division of gas- troenterology and nutrition at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. roughout his tenure, he held various other positions at Nemours, including his 2006 appointment as executive vice president of patient operations and COO. Clint Purvance, MD. President and CEO of Barton Health (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.). Dr. Purvance became president and CEO of Barton Health in November 2015. Previously, he served as CMO of the health system, a position he held for eight years. Dr. Purvance is board-certified in emergency medicine and has practiced medicine at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe since 1999. Ramanathan Raju, MD. President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospi- tals. At the helm of NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Raju leads the largest municipal healthcare system in the U.S., comprised of 42,000 employees working in more than 70 locations across the city. Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed Dr. Raju to serve as president and CEO of the $7.2 billion health system in January 2014. Before that, Dr. Raju served as CEO of Chicago-based Cook County Health & Hospitals System. He spent 25 years as a practicing vascular and trauma surgeon in Brooklyn at the beginning of his career, aer which he served as COO and medical di- rector at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. He was named CMO, corporate COO and executive vice president of NYC Health + Hospitals in 2006. Paul G. Ramsey, MD. CEO of UW Medicine (Seattle). Dr. Ramsey serves as CEO of UW Medicine, executive vice president for medical af- fairs and dean of the school of medicine at the University of Washington. He has led UW Medicine, which includes the UW School of Medicine, four hospitals, a network of primary care clinics, a large physician prac- tice and air ambulance service, since June 1997. Dr. Ramsey began his career at UW Medicine in 1978 aer completing a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He served of act- ing chair and chair of the UW department of medicine from 1990 until stepping into his current role in 1997. Marsha D. Rappley, MD. Vice President of Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System (Rich- mond). Dr. Rappley became vice president of health sciences and CEO of the VCU Health System in August 2015. Previously, she served as dean of Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine in East Lansing for 10 years. She was a tenured professor of pediatrics and human development at MSU. Dr. Rappley, a pediatrician, now serves as chair-elect of the board of directors of the Association of Ameri- can Medical Colleges, as well as on the Research Advisory Panel of the AAMC. Her research has focused on children with ADHD, learning problems and other mental health challenges, and she has been recog- nized for distinguished service by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
