State regulators with the Office of Health Care Access gave approval for New London, Conn.-based Lawrence + Memorial Hospital to join Yale- New Haven (Conn.) Health System. Worcester-based University of Mas- sachusetts Memorial Health Care is eyeing a potential merger of UMass Memorial-HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, Mass., and Clinton (Mass.) Hospital. San Diego-based Scripps Health and Houston-based The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center partnered to create the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center, a comprehensive and clinically integrated cancer program in San Diego. Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth and Georgetown, S.C.-based Tidelands Health partnered in a joint venture to own and operate Tideland's existing 29 bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital at its Murrells Inlet, S.C.-based Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital. The Southwest Virginia Health Authori- ty approved the merger application set forth by Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance and Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System. Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Health Net- work signed a collaborative agreement to extend Geisinger health plans to nearly 50 Pennsylvania counties. The Massachusetts public health coun- cil approved the merger of Ware, Mass.- based Baystate Mary Lane Hospital and Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Mass., both members of Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health network. Tacoma, Wash.-based CHI Francis- can Health and Silverdale, Wash.-based The Doctor's Clinic plan to affiliate. State officials approved the sale of Westerly (R.I.) Hospital to Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Health Services, the parent company of Yale University's Schools of Medicine and Nursing. Mississippi Baptist Health Systems in Jackson and Baptist Memorial Health Care in Memphis, Tenn., are exploring a possible collaboration. Edinburg, Texas-based Doctors Hos- pital at Renaissance Health System officials announced the health sys- tem's intent to expand Mission (Texas) Regional Hospital into a short-term or secondary healthcare facility. Washington (Pa.) Health System ended its partnership with Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network and signed a new agreement with UMPC, also in Pittsburgh. Mount Vernon, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System and Bronx, N.Y.-based St. Barnabas Hospital Health Sys- tem signed a letter of intent to explore a closer, more integrated relationship. Oceanside, Calif.-based Tri-City Medi- cal Center and University of California San Diego Health on Tuesday finalized an exclusive affiliation agreement to en- hance healthcare delivery to patients in North San Diego County. St. Petersburg, Fla.-based All Chil- dren's Johns Hopkins Hospital and Flor- ida Hospital Tampa agreed to an exclu- sive affiliation to provide the community access to high-quality pediatric care. Progressive Health Systems, which includes Pekin (Ill.) Hospital and Pro- Health Medical Group, also in Pekin, has taken the first step to affiliate with UnityPoint Health - Peoria in Illinois. Pittsburgh-based St. Clair Hospital is the 41st organization to join the Mayo Clin- ic Care Network, operated by the Roch- ester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic. The city of Blackwell, Okla., entered into an agreement with Salt Lake City- based Alliance Health, Oklahoma City- based Mercy Health and the Blackwell Hospital Trust Authority. The agree- ment will allow Mercy Health to act as a consultant and manage the city's hos- pital, which will be renamed Blackwell Regional Hospital. Voorhees, N.J.-based Kennedy Health will merge with Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health pending regulatory approval. The Georgia Attorney General ruled in favor of a partnership agreement be- tween Athens (Ga.) Regional Health System and Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare. Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vt., chose Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network as a poten- tial partner. King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services acquired Desert View Regional Medical Center, a 25-bed hospital in Pahrump, Nev. St. Louis-based Mercy partnered with Maryville, Ill.-based Anderson Hospital to expand cancer care. Waterbury, Conn.-based Saint Mary's Health System will officially join Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health – New England. Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital — part of Partners HealthCare in Boston — looks to complete its ac- quisition of Dover, N.H.-based Went- worth-Douglass Hospital. Santa Rosa (Calif.) Memorial Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital will partner to expand pediatric care in the area. Ascension Health and Trinity Health agreed to add the University of Michi- gan Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich., as an equity partner in their statewide clinically integrated network. Baton Rouge, La.-based Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center ac- quired a majority share in Slidell, La.- based Southern Surgical Hospital. Torringon, Conn.-based Charlotte Hun- gerford Hospital and Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare agreed to a formal affiliation. Traverse City, Mich.-based Munson Healthcare is set to acquire Manistee, Mich.-based West Shore Medical Center. n
