This 103-bed nonprofit hospital was established in 1988 when two community hospitals, with histories stretching back more than a century, merged. Newton Medical Center was named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by iVantage for 2016. In 2014 and 2016, the hospital also garnered the Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades. Northern Hospital of Surry County (Mt. Airy, N.C.). The origins of this hospital can be traced back to the 1950s. Northern Hospital of Surry County has since blossomed into a high-tech facility staffed by board-certified and fellowship-trained clinical specialists. Northern Hospital's most recent expansion occurred in 2009 with the opening of a 58,000-square-foot surgery center. In 2016, for the second consecutive year, the hospital earned the Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades. Northern Maine Medical Center (Fort Kent). This 49-bed facility on the border of Canada offers complete obstetric, surgical, pediatric and general medical services. Northern Maine Medical Center also includes the only child, adolescent and adult inpatient psychiatric units in northern Maine. Its history dates to 1952, when it opened as Peoples Benevolent Hospital and was managed by nuns until it became a public community hospital in 1975. In 2016, iVantage named Northern Maine Medical Center a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital, and Healthgrades gave the hospital a Patient Safety Excellence Award. Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital (Winfield, Ill.). Central DuPage Hospital, a Magnet-designated, 333-bed facility, joined Northwestern Memorial HealthCare after Cadence Health joined the Chicago-based system in 2014. The hospital has more than 1,040 physicians on its medical staff, which spans 90 specialties. In 2015, the hospital was named to Truven's 100 Top Hospital list, and this year it earned four Healthgrades awards, including the Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Novant Health Huntersville (N.C.) Medical Center. Huntersville Medical Center, part of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health, opened in 2004 as a 50-bed hospital, but has since grown to house 92 beds. Community outreach is part of the hospital's mission, and through its Solomon House in Huntersville, the hospital offers free health education and referrals to community resources like hospitals, clinics and social services. This year, Healthgrades gave Huntersville Medical Center its America's 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care Award and the America's 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery Award. Ochsner Medical Center-Baton Rouge (La.). Ochsner Baton Rouge includes a 150-bed hospital as well as 13 health centers and a physician team more than 300 strong. Truven named it as one of its 100 Top Hospitals in 2016. The hospital recently opened a Family Birthing Center with six labor and delivery rooms, two built-in birthing tubs, two cesarean rooms and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital also boasts the largest certified nurse midwife program in the area. OhioHealth Dublin (Ohio) Methodist Hospital. Dublin Methodist Hospital opened in 2007, making it the newest hospital in central Ohio, according to OhioHealth. This year, Truven named it to its 100 Top Hospitals list. Healthgrades also gave Dublin Methodist several awards this year, including the Outstanding Patient Experience Award, which the hospital has received for three years straight. Parkview Huntington (Ind.) Hospital. Parkview Huntington Hospital is located about 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne, Ind., where its parent system Parkview Health is based. The hospital has garnered several major recognitions throughout the years, such as inclusion on Truven's 100 Top Hospitals list four times, most recently in 2016, and designation as a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by iVantage this year. The team at the hospital earned the Community Excellence Award from Huntington County Chamber of Commerce for its support for and involvement in projects that make Huntington County a better place to live. Penn Highlands DuBois (Pa.). Penn Highlands DuBois is one of four hospitals that make up DuBois-based Penn Highlands Healthcare. The hospital includes several centers for excellence, including those focused around heart care, women's health, lung care, cancer care and joint replacement. Healthgrades recognized Penn Highlands DuBois with its Patient Safety Excellence Award and America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Award this year. Additionally, iVantage named it as a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital for 2016. Pomerene Hospital (Millersburg, Ohio). Not only was Pomerene Hospital named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by iVantage this year, the National Rural Health Association also named it as a 2016 Top 20 Rural Hospital and Truven named it as a 100 Top Hospital as well. The hospital is licensed for 55 beds, and care teams provide 500 to 600 deliveries and 1,300 to 1,400 surgeries annually. Pomerene is one of the largest employers in its county, with more than 325 employees and 80 physicians. ProMedica Flower Hospital (Sylvania, Ohio). This 311-bed hospital, part of Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica, has been serving the community in greater Toledo for more than a century. This year, Flower Hospital earned the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades. Additionally, the hospital earned an A grade from the Leapfrog Group for its Hospital Safety Score this spring. Renown South Meadows Medical Center (Reno, Nev.). South Meadows Medical Center is part of Reno, Nev.-based Renown Health. The hospital boasts the only 24/7 emergency room staffed with board- certified emergency physicians in south Reno. Truven named it as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals this year. Riverside Medical Center (Kankakee, Ill.). Riverside Medical Center, the area's only Magnet-designated facility, has been a central part of the Kankakee community since it opened in 1964. It now has 325 beds and has earned several awards and recognitions, including being named one of Truven's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals this year. Healthgrades also gave Riverside its Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and its Patient Safety Excellence Award this year, among others. Roper Hospital (Charleston, S.C.). Roper Hospital was founded in 1829 as the first community hospital in the Carolinas. This 368-bed hospital has been named one of Truven's 100 Top Hospitals twice, in 2015 and 2016. Roper Hospital boasts a rooftop helipad, a CyberKnife system and a comprehensive intensive care unit, among other features. Russell Medical Center (Alexander City, Ala.). Russell Medical Center opened in 1923 and has undergone many expansions and improvements since, including adding a da Vinci robotic system in 2011 and forming a relationship with UAB Health System in Birmingham, Ala., in 2012. UAB Medical: The Cancer Center at RMC is a joint venture designed to enhance oncology services in the area. iVantage named RMC as a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital on its 2016 list. Salem (Ore.) Hospital. Salem Hospital is part of Salem Health, which became a partner of Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University in November 2015. Salem Hospital has 454 licensed beds and 673 practitioners on its medical staff. The hospital is Magnet-
