89 FINANCE HEALTH IT Epic, Cerner Lead EHR Mindshare: This and 9 More Health IT Purchasing Trends By Akanksha Jayanthi A s hospitals and healthcare systems consider purchasing options, Epic and Cerner continue to lead the pack in EHR mindshare in 2016, according to a new report from research firm peer60. peer60's latest report analyzes year-over- year trends related to health IT purchasing, including mindshare, marketshare and IT priorities, among other metrics. Here are 10 trends to know about health IT purchasing in 2016. 1. Epic Systems holds the largest inpa- tient EHR mindshare segment in 2016, at 32 percent. Second for inpatient EHR mindshare is Cerner, with 23 percent of the market. 2. Following Epic and Cerner in inpatient EHR mindshare are MEDITECH (20 per- cent), athenahealth (7 percent), Allscripts (7 percent), CPSI (6 percent) and McKes- son (2 percent). 3. In 2016, the majority (83 percent) of hospitals and health systems plan to re- new their inpatient EHRs. Just 10 percent plan to leave their current EHR, and 7 percent are unsure about replacement plans. 4. When looking at healthcare IT purchasing plans in 2016, the healthcare industry is most strongly looking to upgrade population health management and patient engagement solutions, at 20 percent and 19 percent, respectively. 5. Epic also leads the population health mindshare for 2016, at 17 percent, which is unchanged from its mindshare in 2015. 6. Cerner and the Advisory Board Com- pany are neck-and-neck for second in population health mindshare, both with 13 percent. Cerner's mindshare slightly decreased from 2015's 14 percent, as did Advisory's Board's mindshare, which fell from 16 percent. 7. Once again, Epic and Cerner are No. 1 and 2 for patient engagement mindshare in 2016, with Epic garnering 20 percent of the mindshare and Cerner garnering 13 percent. In this case, Epic's mindshare grew from 2015's 14 percent, while Cern- er's slightly dipped from 15 percent. 8. Data security is the third priority for health IT purchasing, at 15 percent. When it comes to mindshare, Cisco leads the way with 30 percent of the market, followed by VMWare at 19 percent and McAfee at 11 percent. 9. At 13 percent, enterprise analytics is the fourth priority for health IT purchas- ing. In this market segment, Cerner takes the No. 1 spot in mindshare, with 18 percent of the market. Epic follows with 16 percent. e two vendors switched places from 2015's mindshare market, when Epic held 19 percent and Cerner held 15 percent. 10. For revenue cycle management, Epic and Cerner once again are No. 1 and 2, but just slightly: Epic holds 15 percent of the mindshare and Cerner holds 14 percent. n Anonymous Hacker Suspected of Boston Children's Hospital 2014 Cyberattack Arrested By Max Green I n a strange series of events involv- ing a Disney cruise ship, hacktivist group Anonymous and a maritime distress call, a 31-year-old Somerville, Mass., man was arrested in connec- tion with a Boston Children's Hospital cyberattack that occurred nearly two years ago, according to NBC. Martin Gottesfeld had been under FBI investigation since late 2014, so when he and his wife suddenly disap- peared, communications from worried relatives piqued the FBI's interest, according to NBC. The FBI began searching for Mr. and Mrs. Gottesfeld and learned the couple had been rescued by a Disney cruise ship that picked them up near Cuba after they placed a distress call from their boat. The FBI was monitoring Mr. Gottes- feld in connection with a YouTube video he posted in which he called for Anonymous to take action against Boston Children's Hospital after it was granted custody over a patient rather than the child's parents, according to The Boston Globe. Shortly after, in April 2014, Boston Children's Hospital suffered a series of cyberattacks that shut down the hospital website for at least a week and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, according to the Globe.
