58 62 Minimally Invasive Devices for ASCs to Know — 2016 By Anuja Vaidya A LF-X from TransEnterix. e ALF-X is a multi-port surgical robotic system in- tended for laparoscopic surgery. It features a 3DHD camera controlled via eye-tracking and enables the perception of tissue consistency. Each ro- botic arm is an independent unit capable of handling each surgical instrument, including the endoscope. AnyPlus MIS System from GS Medical Systems. e minimally invasive AnyPlus MIS System for spine surgery has a self-tapping threaded design to optimize a solid screw purchase to the ver- tebral body. e system has ergonomically designed instrumentation for a true percutaneous approach. e system can reduce blood loss, operative time and postoperative pain. ere is a unique double-locking system with a washer at the screw base for a secure screw-rod interface fit for proper alignment. AVATAR Minimally Invasive Spinal Sys- tem from Life Spine. AVATAR MIS System is a cannulated pedicle screws system inserted over a guide wire, designed to minimize muscle and tissue trauma. e system includes multiple rod insertion methods, such as muscle splitting and true percutaneous surgery. e expanded tabs provide rigid connection to instrumentation and there is a reducer that allows up to 20 mm of rod reduction. is was the second addition to the company's CENTRIC MIS Technologies suite. AxiaLIF Plus System from TranS1. e AxiaLIF Plus System is designed for reproducible anterior retroperitoneal presacral access route to the L5-S1 vertebral bodies. e instrumentation is designed with the standard of care for fusion prin- ciples, distraction and stabilization of the anterior lumbar column. ere have been more than 14,000 AxiaLIF procedures performed in the United States and 90 peer-reviewed publications that show safe- ty, efficiency and biomechanics of the procedure. BoneBac Interbody System from ThompsonMIS. e BoneBac Interbody Sys- tem has a narrow shaped nose for easier inser- tion into a collapsed disc and allows direct gra injection while the inserter is still attached. e product includes two patents completed and five patents pending. e system restores disc height using insert-and-rotate capabilities. BoneScalpel MIS system from Miso- nix. e new BoneScalpel MIS system is designed for limited access and visibility in minimally invasive procedures. It offers superior control in retractor and tube-based procedures for precise bone cutting while sparing so tissue and neural structures. It aims to prevent blood loss and reduce hand fatigue for the surgeon. It also offers a large amount of viable auto- gra bone compared to shavers or burrs. Calcaneal Plating System from Acumed. e system is intended for calca- neal fractures and it aims to reduce potential for wound complications and so tissue irritation. e system offers a minimally invasive approach using a sinus tarsi incision. e Acumed Calcaneal Plating System is composed of several Acumed MINI-Calc Plates and lateral wall plates. Cannuflow ClearVu from Cannu- flow. e Cannuflow ClearVu is a flexible out- flow cannula for knee arthroscopy. It does not clog like a metal cannula and features a superior flow that makes the need for a tourniquet obsolete. It is clinically proven to eliminate trauma to cartilage and so tissue caused by metal cannulas. It aids patient recovery in knee arthroscopy. Cannuflow TwoVu from Cannuflow. e Cannuflow TwoVu is a coaxial outflow cannula to support newer 'two-portal' techniques. It is unique to Cannuflow, as is Cannuflow ClearVu. e sys- tem eliminates the need for 'stopcock twiddling' to gain flow and clarity. Cannuflow TwoVu also eliminates the third portal pain common with metal cannulas and makes shoulder fluid flow in shoulder arthroscopy more efficient. Capstone PEEK Spinal System from Medtronic. e system is intended for use during posterior lumbar interbody fusion or transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. e device features con- vex-shaped implants that are designed to fit patient anatomy and to allow for more accurate sizing. e Capstone system also features teeth on the surface to reduce likelihood of expulsion. e system can be used in open procedures as well as MIS procedures. Carillon Mitral Contour System from Cardiac Dimension. e system combines a proprietary, implantable device with a percutane- ous catheter delivery system. e implantable de- vice consists of a proximal anchor and a distal an- chor connected by a shaping ribbon. e device is intended to reduce mitral annulus dilatation upon deployment. CARILLON can treat most heart fail- ure patients using a minimally invasive approach. coflex Interlaminar Stabilization from Paradigm Spine. e coflex Interlaminar Technology is an interlaminar stabilization device for one- or two-level lumbar stenosis from L1-L5 in skeletally mature patients. e device is im- planted midline between adjacent lamina of one or two contiguous lumbar motion segments. e device is designed for shorter operating room time and hospital stays. Compact Delta II from Dornier MedTech. e Compact Delta II uses Dornier's electromagnetic shockwave emitter technology to deliver consistent energy. e device is used for extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, a treatment that breaks up kidney stones. e Compact Delta II includes a fully integrated shock source and C-arm. e C-arm rotates allowing visualization of stones from various positions and offers two modes of X-ray. COOLIEF Cooled RF from Halyard Health. Coolief Cooled RF is a minimally in- vasive, outpatient treatment that can be used to treat chronic pain, including sacroiliac joint pain, low back pain and knee pain. e procedure uses cooled radiofrequency energy to target the sensory nerves. During the procedure, water is circulated through the device while heating nervous tissue. DIVERGENCE Stand Alone Interbody Cage from Medtronic. e DIVERGENCE Stand Alone Interbody Cage features an all-in- one fusion device with internal screw fixation, al- lowing for maximum distance from the adjacent level disc. e device also incorporates divergent screw technique, which reduces retraction and incision. e device is intended for the treatment of anterior cervical interbody fusion procedures in adult patients with cervical disc disease at one level from C2-C3 to C7-T1. e DIVERGENCE screws feature a cortical cancellous thread design to maximize bone screw purchase. DTRAX Spinal System from Providence Medical Technologies. e DTRAX Spinal System is a set of single-use disposable surgical in- struments that aims to provide tissue-sparing ac- cess to the spine. Specific devices in the system in- clude an access chisel, decortication trephine and bone gra tamp. e instruments are designed for spinal interbody or intrafacet insertion of a bone al- logra. Providence Medical Technology obtained a CE Mark for its DTRAX Spinal System in 2015. EntreVu Instrument Cannula with Ex- travastat Technology from Cannu- flow. e cannula automatically removes extrava- sated fluid out of the so tissue during shoulder arthroscopy procedures. It is clinically proven to cut extravasation by up to 70 percent. EntreVu also eliminates the neck swelling risk that accompanies shoulder procedures. e device aims to lessen post- operative pain and speed up recovery. ES2 Spinal System from Stryker. e ES2 minimally invasive fixation system is a one-piece low profile integrated blade screw that includes a built-in reduction. e system builds on Stryker's Xia technology with the buttress threaded closure mechanism, a cortical cancellous thread pattern and secure screw-to-screwdriver interface. e system has power and navigation capabilities. EVEREST Minimally Invasive Spinal Sys- tem from K2M. e cannulated top-loading polyaxial pedicle screw system, EVEREST MIS, can accommodate titanium and cobalt-chrome
