38 POPULATION HEALTH Ads Target Hospitals for Ties to Chick- fil-A, Other Fast- Food Chains By Kelly Gooch A n ongoing ad campaign in 20 U.S. cities is criticizing hospitals for their ties with fast-food restau- rants, and urging them to end those ties, according to an International Business Times report. Here are five things to know about the ad campaign. 1. Physicians Committee for Respon- sible Medicine, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., launched the ad campaign Jan. 25. 2. It specifically targets hospitals hosting Chick-fil-A branches, although those hospitals have also contracted with McDonald's, Wendy's, Tim Hor- ton's and other food chains. 3. Billboards, street kiosks and other advertisements mock the Chick-fil-A advertising campaign with a photo- graph of three physicians in white coats holding signs saying "Eat More Chick- peas." As part of the ad campaign, bus stops and billboards have been plas- tered with the slogan, "Ask your local hospital to go #FastFoodFree!" 4. Mark Kennedy, associate general counsel at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, said the ad cam- paign is driven by people's health con- cerns. "Staff, executives of the hospital don't want these fast-food joints in there anymore," he said, according to the report. "ey want healthier options." 5. e American Hospital Association did not take a particular stance on the is- sue of whether fast-food chains belong in hospitals, according to the report. Ac- cording to the report, Maulik Joshi, the associate executive vice president for the group, said in an emailed comment, "Hospitals may also offer a variety of choices of food options to meet the pref- erences of their communities." n • Purpose: Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals • Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life • Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security • Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community • Physical: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
