13 ASC Management Which States Attract the Most New Physicians? 10 Key Statistics By Laura Dyrda A Surprising Uptick: More Physicians Not Selling Practices By Mary Rechtoris A recent CareCloud Practice Profitability Index survey found nearly 59 percent of physicians are not planning to sell or merge, accord- ing to Healthcare Finance. CareCloud, a revenue cycle company, and Quantia MD, an online physi- cian community, surveyed more than 5,000 physicians. Here are five key notes: 1. In 2014, 54 percent of respondents said they were not planning to sell or merge their practice. 2. Despite the uptick this year, 25 percent of surveyed practice owners said they are planning to sell or merge because of the growing burden of ad- ministrative work. 3. Many physicians expect profitability to decline, with 31 percent of respon- dents saying they expect downward pressure on profitability, compared to 24 percent who said they expect their practices to earn more. 4. In the report, respondents cited declining reimbursement as a top challenge for physician practices, followed by rising costs and the ICD-10 transition. 5. Twenty percent of respondents said they plan to replace their practice management or electronic health records soware because of poor inte- gration and hard-to-use interfaces. n A new study from the Association of American Medical Colleges ranked the top states attracting physicians based on growth over the past few years. e top five states for growth from 2012 to 2014 were: 1. California: 4,617 physicians 2. Texas: 3,842 physicians 3. Florida: 3,103 physicians 4. New York: 2,225 physicians 5. Massachusetts: 2,032 physicians e states with the top growth percentages were: 1. Utah: 9.6 percent 2. Massachusetts: 9.4 percent 3. Rhode Island: 8.8 percent 4. Colorado: 8.5 percent 5.
