24 ASC Transactions 8 Hospitals & Health Systems Opening ASCs By Megan Wood Here are eight hospitals and health systems opening or expanding ambula- tory surgery centers. Athens (Ala.)-Limestone Hospital plans to build a $35 million ASC in Ath- ens, but funding issues could derail the project. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Glen Mills, Pa., opened the Brandy- wine Valley Specialty Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center. Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas, plans to double its 3,800-square-foot ASC and medical office. Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pa., plans to reopen an ASC on the hospi- tal's campus that closed its doors several years ago. A group of nine investors has proposed Vermont's second surgery center, to be called the Green Mountain Surgery Center in Colchester. Freeman Health System, based in Joplin, Mo., acquired and renamed a sur- gery center in Kansas. e surgery center's new name is Freeman Surgical Center. Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas, has opened two new facilities, one of which is an outpatient surgery center.
