Here are eight things to know: 1. During the first six months of 2015, Implanet spine sales were up 66 percent over the same period last year. There has been uninterrupted growth in the segment for the past 18 months in priority regions. 2. There were more than 600 surgeries with the JAZZ implant in the first half of the year. "This validates our strategy of focus- ing on JAZZ implant at regions of the world with the greatest potential," said CEO Ludovic Lastennet. 3. The company's extension of the range launched in late May is beginning to bear fruit, accounting for around 20 per- cent of the first half of the year revenue. 4. The first surgeries in Latin America were performed and the region has potential for growth in the future. 5. Implanet reported 2.2 per- cent revenue growth for the first half of the year, and inter- national revenue accounted for 55.1 percent of the total first half revenue. This is up from 40 percent of the revenue last year. United States growth drove the revenue increase. 6. However, it's not expected to have an impact from the third quarter onwards. n US Spinal Fusion Cost Variation: 5 Key Trends By Laura Dyrda A new study published in Spine examines the geographic variation in anterior cervical discec- tomy and fusion as well as posterolateral fusion costs. e researchers examined Medicare Provider Utilization and Payment data to investigate costs for ACDF, PLF and total knee arthroplasty. Here are five key notes from the study: 1. e combined professional and facility fees for single- level ACDF were $13,899 on average nationwide. Total costs for single-level PLF were $25,858 on average. 2. Total TKA costs were $13,039 on average nationwide. TKA costs increased to $22,138 for patients with major comorbidities. 3. ere were significant differences in total costs for all three procedures across geographic regions and between patients with and without major complications or comorbidities. e Midwest had the lowest costs for all procedures. 4. ere were similar geographic trends in spinal fusion and TKA costs, suggesting that variations may not be specific to spine-related procedures. 5. e surgical costs correlated with the cost of living but weren't associated with the state's population. n
