Healthcare marketing research firm SK&A con- ducted extensive research of the 602 identified ACOs in the U.S., including Medicare Shared Savings Program ACOs, Pioneer ACOs, Medicare and non-Medicare commercial ACOs, and Med- icaid ACOs. The only specialty that experienced a drop in 2014 salary compared to 2013 salary was general surgery, which fell 1.1 percent. In contrast, the specialties that grew the most were neurology (6.7 percent), emer- gency medicine (6.6 percent), cardiology (5.2 percent) and pediatrics (4.2 percent). Here is how each specialty stacked up based on average 2014 income, ac- cording to e Medicus Firm. e following specialties are listed in de- scending order by average salary. 1. Orthopedic surgery — $499,000 (2.9 percent increase from 2013) 2. Cardiology — $443,000 (5.2 percent increase from 2013) 3. Gastroenterology — $424,000 (0.7 percent increase from 2013) 4. Urology — $416,000 (0.5 percent increase from 2013) 5. Radiology — $403,000 (2.0 percent increase from 2013) 6. Medical oncology — $402,000 (0.25 percent increase from 2013) 7.
