For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines commu- nity hospital as a hospital with fewer than 550 beds and that have minimal teaching programs. Some are locat- ed in suburban areas near major cities, while others are found in rural towns that serve as the only hospitals in their communities. Whether independent or part of a larger health system, the hospitals on this list have con- tinually worked to provide high-quality care. The Becker's editorial team selected community hos- pitals based on rankings and awards from such orga- nizations as iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, Healthgrades and CareChex. Note: This list is not an endorsement of included hos- pitals or associated healthcare providers, and organi- zations cannot pay for inclusion on this list. Hospitals are presented in alphabetical order. Adirondack Medical Center (Saranac Lake, N.Y.). Located in Upstate New York less than 100 miles from the U.S.-Canadian border, Adirondack Medical Center is licensed for 95 beds at two locations. The medical center boasts a medical staff that includes 60 physicians board-certified in 25 specialties. In 2015, Healthgrades recognized Adirondack Medical Center with an Outstanding Patient Experience Award. The hospital also received re-accreditation in 2014 by the American Osteopathic Association for its commit- ment to patient safety and quality care. Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital (Downers Grove, Ill.). In 2015, this 333-bed hospital was ranked a Truven 100 Top Hospital for the sixth time. Advo- cate Good Samaritan Hospital has also received nu- merous awards from Healthgrades, including being ranked among America's 50 Best Hospitals from 2013 to 2015 and being ranked among the top 100 hos- pitals in the country in six specialties this year. U.S. News & World Report ranked Advocate Good Samari- tan within the top 15 hospitals in the Chicago metro area and in Illinois in its 2014-15 rankings. Allen Memorial Hospital (Waterloo, Iowa). This 204-bed nonprofit community hospital has served five generations of families in the Cedar Valley re- gion of Iowa since it opened back in 1925. Allen is an affiliate hospital of West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health, which cares for roughly one-third of the patients in the state. In 2015, Allen Memorial Hospital was named a HealthStrong Top Hospital by iVantage Health Analytics, as well as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country for coronary interven- tion by Healthgrades. Allina Health Mercy Hospital (Coon Rapids, Minn.). Mercy Hospital has won many prestigious awards, in- cluding two overall hospital awards and four specialty excellence awards from Healthgrades. In its 2014-15 rankings, U.S. News & World Report named this 271- bed hospital one of the top 100 in the country in gastroenterology and GI surgery, as well as the No. 3 facility in Minnesota. Mercy Hospital was also named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the country in 2015 by Truven Health Analytics. Mercy serves the north- western Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and employs more than 2,000 people. Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center (Medford, Ore.). Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center is Asante's 378-bed flagship hospital in Medford, the fourth largest metropolitan area in Oregon. This re- gional referral and trauma center has been named a Truven 100 Top Hospital three times, including in 2015, as well as an iVantage 2015 HealthStrong Top Hospital. Healthgrades named Asante Rogue Region- al Medical Center one of America's 100 Best Hospitals overall and in eight specialties this year. Augusta Health (Fishersville, Va.). Each year, Au- gusta Health serves roughly 12,000 patients in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. After be- ing named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades for three consecutive years, Augusta Health was named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals in 2015, a distinction only about 1 percent of hospi- tals nationwide earn. The 255-bed hospital was also recognized as a 2015 HealthStrong Top Hospital by iVantage and rated as high-performing in two special- ties by U.S. News & World Report. Aurora BayCare Medical Center (Green Bay, Wis.). This 167-bed hospital serves the Green Bay area as well as communities in northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is a joint venture of Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic, a physician-owned specialty care clinic based in Green Bay, established in 2001. It has a medical staff of more than 200 and employs more than 1,000 non- physicians.
