For-profit Alecto Healthcare Services, headquar- tered in Los Angeles, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 237-bed Texas Health Pres- byterian Hospital-WNJ in Sherman. Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Fla., signed a letter of intent to partner with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Community Hospital Anderson (Ind.) also affiliated with MD Anderson's nationally renowned program. Following a preliminary non-binding letter of intent, Miami-based Baptist Health South Flor- ida signed a formal affiliation agreement with Boynton Beach, Fla.-based Bethesda Health and Bethesda Hospital East. Rockville Centre, N.Y.-based Catholic Health Ser- vices of Long Island and St. John's Episcopal Hos- pital in Far Rockaway, N.Y., acquired a 50-percent stake in Westbury, N.Y.-based Beacon Health Part- ners — an independent physician network. Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health signed affiliation agreements with Oakley, Kan.-based Logan County Hospital and Elkhart, Kan.-based Morton County Health System. Chicago-based Community First Healthcare of Illinois offered Presence Health in Chicago $30 million for Our Lady of the Resurrection Medi- cal Center. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Sys- tems acquired substantially all of 179-bed Nat- chez (Miss.) Regional Medical Center's assets. The board of directors of Daughters of Charity Health System in Los Altos Hills, Calif. agreed to sell its hospitals to for-profit Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services. Prime also signed a definitive agreement to acquire hospitals, long- term care facilities and other assets of Carondelet Health in Kansas City, Mo., which is part of St. Louis-based Ascension. San Francisco-based Dignity Health and Lew- isville, Texas-based Adeptus Health announced plans to partner in a joint venture to meet the growing demand for access to quality medi- cal care in Arizona. Adeptus owns and operates Lewisville, Texas-based First Choice Emergency Room, a network of independent freestanding emergency departments. Hackensack (N.J.) University Health Network and Neptune, N.J-based Meridian Health signed a mem- orandum of understanding to consider merging. The Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Penn- sylvania Department of Health approved an affili- ation between Camp Hill, Pa.-based Holy Spirit Health System and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System. Kindred Healthcare, a post-acute care services provider based in Louisville, Ky., and Atlanta- based home health and hospice services provider Gentiva Health Services reached a definitive merger agreement. Neptune, N.J.-based Meridian Health and Rari- tan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, N.J., signed a letter of intent explore a merger, and over the next several months the two organiza- tions will enter into a due diligence period to thoroughly look into the financial, legal and clini- cal issues involved in the transaction. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health signed a non-binding letter of intent under which a subsidiary of Franklin, Tenn.-based Commu- nity Health Systems will take over managing and operating Gaffney (S.C.) Medical Center. Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C., is considering a partnership with Greenville, N.C.-based Vidant Health. Hastings, Mich.-based Pennock Health and Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health signed a letter of intent to affiliate. Saint Anthony's Health System in Alton, Ill., re- ceived canonical approval from the Vatican to affil- iate with Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Healthcare System. South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceans- ide, N.Y., closed on an asset purchase agreement to acquire the assets of 162-bed Long Beach (N.Y.) Medical Center, which closed in October 2012 after sustaining heavy flooding damage from Hurricane Sandy. Cincinnati-based TriHealth and McCullough- Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio, signed a letter of intent to affiliate. University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medicine and Dansville, N.Y.-based Noyes Health announced a possible affiliation, although officials say they are still months away from making a decision. The University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville became the majority owner of 70- bed Culpeper (Va.) Regional Hospital. Pleasanton, Calif.-based ValleyCare Health Sys- tem will become a subsidiary of Stanford (Calif.) Health Care under an affiliation agreement. The board of directors of Watertown (Wis.) Re- gional Medical Center chose Brentwood, Tenn.- based LifePoint Hospitals to form a joint venture partnership, which includes significant capital investments in WRMC.
