100 Leadership & Management Rising Stars: 25 Healthcare Leaders Under 40 Becker's Hospital Review is pleased to honor the follow- ing 25 men and women who have demonstrated excel- lence in their organizations and professional lives before turning 40. Though they have reached great professional heights early in their careers, these healthcare leaders are poised for continued growth and considerable success for the rest of their careers. Note: The following leaders were collected through peer nominations and editorial research. There are no fees involved and no one can pay to be included on this list. Leaders were under 40 years of age at the time of their nomination. They are presented in alphabetical order. Jim Brown, CEO of Ambulatory Services at Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (Houston). Since Decem- ber 2012, Mr. Brown, 38, has served as the CEO of Me- morial Hermann's ambulatory services. In addition to the system's imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals, he also oversees Memorial Her- mann's 30 physical therapy clinics, three Ironman Sports Medicine Institutes, a reference lab company and ortho- pedic service line. Prior to taking over Memorial Her- mann's ambulatory services, Mr. Brown served as CEO of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land (Texas) Hospital. Jeffrey DiLisi, MD, Vice President and CMO of Vir- ginia Hospital Center (Arlington). In June 2009, Dr. DiLisi came to Virginia Hospital Center as an attending physician, co-medical director of the hospitalist group and associate vice president of medical affairs. Dr. DiLisi, 37, assumed his role as vice president and CMO in De- cember 2011. He also oversees the resident and student education at Virginia Hospital Center, which is affiliated with Washington, D.C.-based Georgetown University and the MedStar residency programs. Prior to serving at the Virginia Hospital Center, Dr. DiLisi worked at Try- phon Capital, a healthcare-focused hedge fund. Jeremy Clark, CEO of Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett (Tenn.). Mr. Clark, 39, was appointed CEO of Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett by Dallas-based Tenet Health- care in June 2012. Mr. Clark joined Tenet Healthcare in 2004 as an associate in the company's leadership devel- opment program. Prior to his position at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett, Mr. Clark served as the vice president and chief of staff for Tenet Healthcare. He was also COO at West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Good Samaritan Medical Center, guiding it into its first Circle of Excellence award, Tenet's highest honor for a hospital. Delvecchio Finley, CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Cen- ter (Torrance, Calif.). Mr. Finley, 37, was appointed CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in October 2011. Mr. Finley is board certified in healthcare management and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Execu- tives. Mr. Finley began as an administrator for several medical divisions within University of California, San Francisco. He also held several executive positions in other hospitals, including associate administrator at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and in- terim COO at San Francisco-based Laguna Honda Hos- pital and Rehabilitation Center. Most recently, Mr. Finley was vice president of operations at San Francisco-based California Pacific Medical Center. Gabrielle Finley-Hazle, CEO of North Shore Medi- cal Center FMC Campus (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). With more than 12 years of healthcare executive leadership experience, Ms. Finley-Hazle, 37, has served as North Shore Medical Center FMC Campus' CEO since Sep- tember 2012. Before then, she served as the hospital's COO. Before joining North Shore Medical Center FMC Campus in 2010, Ms. Finley-Hazle served as CEO and COO of a multispecialty physician group in Ft. Lauderdale. Peter Fleischut, MD, Associate Chief Innovation Of- ficer and Deputy Quality and Patient Safety Officer for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (New York City). In addition to associate chief innovation officer and deputy quality and patient safety officer, Dr. Fleischut, 36, also serves as director of the main operating rooms for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Additionally, he is the founding director of the Center for Perioperative Outcomes and assistant professor of anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Known for his focus on quality, Dr. Fleischut won the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award from the National Quality Fo- rum and Joint Commission in 2011. Dr. Fleischut was also awarded the 2013 Physician of the Year by NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center's nursing de- partment. Christina Freese-Decker, President, Spectrum Health Hospital Group (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Ms. Freese- Decker, 36, has been with Spectrum Health since 2002. She was named senior vice president and chief strategy officer in December 2013. Earlier that year, she won the American College of Healthcare Executives' Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Ex- ecutive of the Year. Ms. Freese-Decker served in various leadership roles before becoming president of Spectrum Health's United and Kelsey Hospitals, in Greenville and Lakeview, Mich., in 2011. Under her leadership, United Hospital was named as one of Truven Health Analytics' 100 Top Hospitals in 2013. John Gennaro, Director of Veterans Affairs Butler (Pa.) Healthcare. Mr. Gennaro, 36, was appointed director of VA Butler Healthcare in February 2012. Mr. Gennaro be- gan his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1997. He has previously served as deputy director of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System where he began in October 2010. He also served as associate director for site management at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and associate director of Erie (Pa.) VA Medical Center. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the board of directors for the Allegheny Valley YMCA in Notrona Heights, Pa. Dustin Greene, COO of TriStar Skyline Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Previously the COO for HCA's Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Ga., Mr. Greene, 35, became COO of TriStar Skyline Medical Center in August 2012. Prior to his appointment as COO for Eastside Medical Center, Mr. Greene served as an associate administrator at HCA's Northlake Medical Center in Atlanta and as assistant controller at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center.
