The cancer program at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fair- view, is run through the University of Minnesota Physicians Cancer Care at Fairview, a specialized team of clinicians dedicated to providing cancer care. This team is also the primary group prac- tice associated with the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota, a National Can- cer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The physician team performed the world's first successful blood and marrow transplant for Burkitt's lymphoma. University of North Carolina Hospitals (Chapel Hill). UNC Hospitals includes North Carolina Cancer Hospital, the clinical home of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Lineberger Center is designated as a comprehen- sive cancer center by the National Cancer Insti- tute. The N.C. Cancer Hospital opened in 2009 and offers more than 225 clinical trials. U.S. News & World Report ranked UNC Hospitals as one of the nation's top 40 for cancer care for 2014-15. University of Tennessee Medical Center (Knox- ville). Physicians at the UT Cancer Institute diag- nose and treat more cancer patients annually than other facilities in the region. CareChex ranked UT Medical Center in the top 100 nationally for cancer care this year, and U.S. News & World Re- port has named it high-performing in the region for cancer care. The Cancer Institute's Breast Health Outreach Program recently received a $20,000 one-year grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation to increase awareness of early breast cancer detection. University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Cen- ter (Houston). MD Anderson Cancer Center has ranked as one of the top two cancer centers in the nation for the last 25 years by U.S. News & World Report. Physicians at MD Anderson saw their first patient in 1944, and in 2013 they treated more than 120,000 people. MD Anderson is the No. 1 recipient for grants awarded and total grant dol- lars by the National Cancer Institute, and the NCI has designated it as one of just 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation. University of Virginia Medical Center (Charlot- tesville). Clinicians at the University of Virginia Cancer Center provide high-quality cancer care, as evidenced by the hospital's No. 8 ranking in cancer care by CareChex this year. The National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center formed clinical teams, made up of researchers, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and other professionals, in 1995. The center currently has 12 cancer-spe- cific care teams. University of Washington Medical Center (Se- attle). Magnet-recognized UW Medical Cen- ter is part of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which unites physicians from UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children's Hospital. Together, they form the only National Cancer Institute-designated compre- hensive cancer center in the Northwest. More than 5,500 new cancer patients are treated at SCCA ev- ery year. U.S. News & World Report ranked UW Medical Center as the No. 6 hospital for cancer care in 2014-15. University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (Madison). The UW Carbone Cancer Center is Wisconsin's only comprehensive cancer center, as designated by the National Cancer Institute. Clinicians see more than 30,000 patients annually for diagnosis, therapy, follow-up care or consul- tations. The Magnet-recognized hospital con- sistently ranks among the top 25 for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report. UPMC (Pittsburgh). The UPMC CancerCenter is partnered with the region's only National Can- cer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Insti- tute. Physicians at the CancerCenter facilities treat 74,000 patients annually in 15 areas of expertise. In 2014, UPCI was awarded two grants from the NCI totaling nearly $10 million to aid research developments. Keck Hospital of USC (Los Angeles). Keck Hospi- tal of USC offers cancer care through its affiliation with USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital. The center was one of the first eight National Cancer Institute-designated comprehen- sive cancer centers in the country. Keck Hospital was named one of America's Top Quality Hospitals for cancer care in 2014 by CareChex. Valley Hospital (Ridgewood, N.J.). Valley Hospi- tal, a 451-bed Magnet-recognized hospital, was the first in New Jersey to receive The Joint Commis- sion's Gold Seal of Approval for Cancer. The hospi- tal's Daniel and Gloria Blumenthal Cancer Center was named a Women's Choice Award recipient as one of America's Best Hospitals for Cancer Care this year, and CareChex ranked the hospital in the top 100 in the nation for cancer care. Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nash- ville). The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the state. The center's physicians serve more than 6,252 new cancer patients and see more than 151,000 out- patient visitors each year. CareChex ranked the hospital in the top 15 nationally for cancer care, and U.S. News & World Report has ranked VUMC as the No. 1 hospital for cancer care in Tennessee. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Winston- Salem, N.C.). The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has more than 120 clinicians representing all aspects of cancer care. It is one of just 41 organizations des- ignated as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute. U.S. News & World Re- port has ranked Wake Forest as one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cancer care, and Care- Chex ranked it as No. 26 for cancer care this year. WellStar Kennestone Hospital (Marietta, Ga.). CareChex ranked WellStar Kennestone Hos- pital among the top 50 in the nation for cancer care in 2014. The hospital is home to Georgia's first CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery program, which can reduce eight weeks of radiotherapy to five two-hour sessions. WellStar Kennestone's cancer program has been accredited by the Amer- ican College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. West Virginia University Hospitals (Morgan- town). The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University's clinics are owned and operated by WVU Hospitals. MBRCC is recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for providing high-qual- ity cancer care. U.S. News & World Report rec- ognizes WVUH as the state's No. 1 hospital for cancer treatment. Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital. The Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven treats more cancer patients than any other hospital in Con- necticut. It is affiliated with Yale Cancer Center, a comprehensive cancer center as designated by the National Cancer Institute.
