St. Vincent Hospital & Health Services makes cancer care and prevention accessible through interventions like its mobile screening van, which provides free mammograms for un- insured and underinsured patients. The Ameri- can College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer has recognized St. Vincent Cancer Care for high- quality cancer care. Last summer, the Association of Community Cancer Centers named St. Vincent Cancer Care one of five community resource cen- ters in the country for patients with small popula- tion or rare cancers. Stanford Health Care (Palo Alto, Calif.). Stan- ford Cancer Institute takes a multidisciplinary, team-based approach to oncology with more than 300 researchers and clinicians. The Institute was founded in 2003 and received cancer center designation from the National Cancer Institute in 2007. U.S. News & World Report ranked Stanford Hospital and Clinics as one of the top 10 hospitals in the country for cancer care in 2014-15. Sutter General Hospital (Sacramento). Sutter Cancer Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, bringing together surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists and other cancer specialists together for team-based care delivery. Each of Sutter's cancer centers has earned accreditation from the American College of Surgeons. The cancer center at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a comprehensive community cancer program. Texas Children's Hospital (Houston). Texas Chil- dren's cancer and hematology centers treat all pe- diatric cancer and blood disorders, even the most rare. The centers handle more than 35,000 outpa- tient visits each year with patients from 35 states and 26 countries, making the hospital home to the one of the largest pediatric cancer and hematology programs in the United States. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital as No. 4 in the country for pediatric cancer care in 2014-15. Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth. Tex- as Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth is 726- bed, Magnet-designated regional referral cen- ter. The hospital has received an Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in providing cancer care from the American College of Sur- geons Commission on Cancer. CareChex also ranked the hospital as one of the top 100 in the country for cancer care. Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Phila- delphia). Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson was established in 1991. Today, the National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center includes six research programs and approximately 150 phy- sicians and scientists specializing in cancer. A study led by Kimmel investigators this year dis- covered molecular clues that may help physicians therapeutically target inflammatory breast cancer, which is a highly aggressive form of the disease. UC San Diego Medical Center. Established in 1978, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center is one of 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehen- sive cancer centers in the United States and the only one in the San Diego region. U.S. News & World Re- port ranked UC San Diego Medical Center as No. 25 in the country for cancer care in 2014-15. The hos- pital is currently expanding its capacity for oncology by constructing Jacobs Medical Center, which will open in 2016. Adjacent to Moores Cancer Center, it will have two floors devoted to the Pauline and Stan- ley Foster Hospital for Cancer Care. UCLA Medical Center (Los Angeles). UCLA Medical Center's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center was designated as comprehensive by the National Cancer Institute in 1967. JCCC is one of the largest comprehensive cancer centers in the country, with more than 240 physicians and sci- entists, and it handles more than 20,000 patient visits per year. U.S. News & World Report ranked UCLA Medical Center as one of the top 10 hos- pitals in the country for cancer care in 2014-15. UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco). The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Can- cer Center is home to several oncology break- throughs, including the existence of cancer-caus- ing oncogenes. U.S. News & World Reportranked UCSF as one of the top 10 hospitals in the country for cancer care in 2014-15 and the National Can- cer Institute has designated UCSF as a compre- hensive cancer center. UCSF's new 289-bed medi- cal center complex that includes a cancer hospital is slated to open to patients in 2015. University of Alabama Hospital (Birming- ham). UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated com- prehensive cancer center in the six-state area of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina and Georgia. The center is home to more than 330 physicians and researchers and has an estimated 5,000 new patients each year. University of Arizona Medical Center (Tuc- son). The University of Arizona Cancer Center was founded in 1976 and designated as one of the first comprehensive cancer centers by the National Can- cer Institute in 1990. Hundreds of physicians, scien- tists, postdoctoral fellows and students work in the center's 73 research laboratories, which emphasize personalized medicine and research for cancer pre- vention. The hospital has received Magnet designa- tion for nursing excellence. University of California Davis Medical Center (Sacramento). The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, designated as comprehensive by the National Cancer Institute, draws more than $100 million annually for cancer research. UC Davis Medical Center was ranked as the No. 1 hospital for cancer in the Sacramento area and among the top 50 nationally by U.S. News & World Report in 2014-15. University of Chicago Medical Center. Univer- sity of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center includes more than 200 cancer specialists and is one of two National Cancer Institute-des- ignated comprehensive cancer centers in Illinois. In May 2014, a team from UChicago Medicine re- ceived a five-year, $3.9-million NCI grant to serve as the only lead site in Illinois for the newly cre- ated National Clinical Trials Network. University of Colorado Hospital (Aurora). Uni- versity of Colorado Cancer Center is the only Na- tional Cancer Institute-designated comprehen- sive cancer center in the state. The center treated 2,750 new adult patients in 2013 and the hospital has reported its five-year survival rates for many types of cancer are as much as 30 percent higher than state, regional and national averages. U.S. News & World Report ranked University of Colo- rado Hospital as No. 15 in the country for cancer care in 2013-14. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (Iowa City). Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center was founded in 1980 and has held National Cancer Institute designation as a comprehensive cancer center — the only such institution in the state — since 2000. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital as one of the top 15 in the country for cancer care for 2014-15. University of Kansas Hospital (Kansas City). The University of Kansas Cancer Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commis- sion on Cancer. U.S. News & World Report ranks KU Hospital among the top 50 programs for cancer care in the nation, and the cancer center achieved designation as a cancer center by the Na- tional Cancer Institute in June 2012. University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hos- pital (Lexington). The clinical programs at Mar- key Cancer Center, founded in 1983, are integrat- ed with UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. Markey was designated as a cancer center by the National Cancer Institute in July 2013, and the cancer cen- ter has seen a 29 percent growth in patient visits compared to five years ago. UK Chandler Hospi- tal is a Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers for 10 cancer types. University of Maryland Medical Center (Balti- more). The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, part of the UMMC, is a National Cancer Institute-designat- ed cancer center. It offers more than 200 clinical trials, and its nursing staff has achieved Magnet status for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. UMMC was ranked as one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report for 2014-15. University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers (Ann Arbor). The U-M Comprehen- sive Cancer Center, one of just 41 organizations designated as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute, is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, which develops national guidelines for the delivery of quality care. The center constantly ranks in the top 10 nationally for funding from the National Cancer Institute. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital among the top 35 in the nation for cancer care in 2014-15.
