AtlantiCare in Atlantic City, N.J., signed a defini- tive agreement to become a member of Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pa. Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initia- tives and Lufkin, Texas-based Memorial Health System of East Texas signed a definitive agree- ment transferring ownership of Memorial to CHI. Cleveland Clinic and Akron (Ohio) General Health System signed a letter of intent to enter into an agree- ment making Cleveland Clinic a minority owner of Akron General and making Akron General its exclu- sive health system partner in Summit County, Ohio. Community Health Network and Eskenazi Health, both based in Indianapolis, decided not to work toward a partnership. East Orange (N.J.) General Hospital and Pros- pect Medical Holdings, a for-profit hospital op- erator based in Santa Ana, Calif., signed a defini- tive partnership agreement. Richland, Wash.-based Kadlec Health System and Providence Health and Services signed a fi- nal definitive agreement to affiliate. Medina (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital, part of Or- leans Community Health, signed an affiliation agreement with Catholic Health in Buffalo, N.Y. Savannah, Ga.-based Memorial Health signed an agreement to form a joint venture with Birming- ham, Ala.-based rehabilitative hospital services provider HealthSouth Corp. to own and operate a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Mount Kisco, N.Y.-based Northern Westchester Hospital signed a letter of intent to enter into exclu- sive partnership talks with North Shore-LIJ Health System in Manhasset, N.Y., by the end of the year. Northstar Health System in Iron River, Mich., final- ized its affiliation with Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus. New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System and St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling, La., announced an intent to expand their strategic relationship, un- der which Ochsner would provide management ser- vices to the 59-bed community hospital. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Cen- ter in Columbus and Ohio Valley Health Services and Education — the parent company of Wheeling, W.Va.-based Ohio Valley Medical Center and Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, Ohio — affiliat- ed to help improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare services in the Ohio Valley region. Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla., became the 29th member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District in Braw- ley, Calif., and El Centro (Calif.) Regional Medi- cal Center approved a memorandum of under- standing to consider a possible affiliation. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., and Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., completed their merger, forming a hospital with 965 beds across the two campuses. Rutherfordton, N.C.-based Rutherford Regional Health System and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint finalized the transaction to jointly own and operate Rutherford Regional Health System. Memphis, Mo.-based Scotland County Hospital signed an affiliation agreement with Quincy, Ill.- based Blessing Health System. Two New York health systems — Albany-based St. Peter's Health Partners and Ellis Medicine in Schenectady — announced plans to form a re- gional alliance. Show Low, Ariz.-based Summit Healthcare Re- gional Medical Center entered into a collaboration agreement with Phoenix-based Banner Health. A subsidiary of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. acquired a majority interest in Texas Re- gional Medical Center in Sunnyvale. ValleyCare Health System, based in Pleasanton, Calif., signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Stanford (Calif.) Hospital & Clinics.
