The system's clinical arm, the Unified Clinical Organization, is tasked with making this happen. According to Senior Vice President and CMO, Donald Bignotti, MD, the system devel- ops and then implements evidence-based guidelines at all of its care sites through the UCO. "We've had a number of areas where I think we have done things that have led the country," in terms of implement- ing guidelines and improving quality, Dr. Bignotti says. One prime example is Trinity's Perinatal Patient Safety Initiative, which started about four years ago. Advocate Health Care's 5 Keys to Patient Safety By Akanksha Jayanthi The Leapfrog Group recently released its spring 2014 Hospital Safety Scores in May. The report showed an overall 6.3 percent average improvement in hospital performance since 2012. Advocate Health Care, based in Downers Grove, Ill., is one system receiving high marks, with nine of the health system's hospitals receiving an A grade. Kate Kovich, Advocate Health Care's vice president of patient safety, shared five of the health system's key strategies to champion patient safety. 1. Advocate places an emphasis on account- ability surrounding health outcomes. Ms. Kovich says the health system's overarching goal is to For hospitals, benchmarking data can be incredibly valuable.
