Kindred Healthcare, a post-acute care services
provider based in Louisville, Ky., made an unso-
licited proposal to acquire Atlanta-based home
health and hospice services provider Gentiva
Health Services in a transaction that would be
valued at $1.6 billion.
Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital, a 189-bed
independent community hospital, expanded its
clinical affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center in Boston.
Mendota (Ill.) Community Hospital signed a let-
ter of intent to affiliate with Peoria, Ill.-based OSF
Healthcare System.
Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center, a
175-bed hospital in Lewiston, N.Y., agreed to be-
come a full member of Catholic Health.
Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in Chicago
and Cadence Health in Winfield, Ill., approved a
definitive merger agreement.
North Shore-LIJ Health System in Great Neck, N.Y.,
and Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy
Hollow, N.Y., ratified a letter of intent that would
bring Phelps into the North Shore-LIJ network.
Ochsner Health System, one of Louisiana's larg-
est health systems, based in New Orleans, and
St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, La.,
signed a letter of intent to affiliate.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley
gave the green light to Boston-based Partners
HealthCare's bid to acquire Hallmark Health Sys-
tem in Melrose, Mass., and South Shore Hospital
in Weymouth, Mass., but the state also hammered
out an agreement that will alter Partners' negotiat-
ing power for the next decade.
Port Huron (Mich.) Hospital and McLaren
Health Care in Flint, Mich., signed a definitive ac-
quisition agreement, making Port Huron Hospital
the 12th hospital within the McLaren system.
Executives at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga
Springs, N.Y., and Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital en-
tered discussions regarding a possible merger.
A bankruptcy court approved Oceanside, N.Y.-
based South Nassau Communities Hospital's
move to acquire nearly all assets of Long Beach
(N.Y.) Medical Center.
Sylvania Franciscan Health, a seven-hospital sys-
tem based in Toledo, Ohio, signed a letter of intent
to join Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health
Initiatives.
University of Utah Health Care, based in Salt
Lake City, and Community Hospital in Grand
Junction, Colo., reached a partnership agreement.
The University of Wisconsin Health in Madison
and SwedishAmerican Health System in Rock-
ford, Ill., approved a letter of intent to merge.
ValleyCare Health System, based in Livermore,
Calif., started the process of finding a potential af-
filiation partner.
