In this capacity, he oversees areas that include Major League Operations, On-Field Operations, On-Field Discipline and Umpiring. He serves as the Office of the Commissioner's primary liaison to the general managers and field managers of the 30 Major League Clubs regarding all baseball and on-field matters. Since December 2009, he has served on the Commissioner's Special Committee for On-Field Matters. Torre ranks fifth in all-time managerial wins, with 2,326. The Associated Press named him Manager of the Year in 1982 and 1998. In 1996 and 1998, the Baseball Writers Association of America named him American League Manager of the Year and, in 1996, The Sporting News named him Sportsman of the Year. He won ESPN's ESPY Award for Best Manager/Coach of the Year in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Torre is the co-author of three books: The Yankee Years (Doubleday 2009), Chasing the Dream: My Lifelong Journey to the World Series (Bantam 1997, 1998) and Joe Torre's Ground Rules for Winners: 12 Keys to Managing Team Players, Tough Bosses, Setbacks and Success (Hyperion 1999). Torre was born on July 18, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY. He, Ali and their daughter, Andrea, live in Beverly Hills, CA. His three adult children are Michael, Cristina and Lauren. Keynote - Barry S. Arbuckle, PhD is President and CEO of MemorialCare Health System, a leading Southern California not-forprofit integrated health care delivery system with $2 billion in annual revenues. Under Dr. Arbuckle's leadership, MemorialCare has experienced unprecedented growth and financial performance and has grown in prominence regionally and nationally. He is married with four children. Keynote - Delos "Toby" Cosgrove, MD, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He heads a $6 billion healthcare system comprised of Cleveland Clinic, 8 community hospitals, more than 75 outpatient locations in northern Ohio, including 16 full-service family health centers, Cleveland Clinic Florida, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas, Cleveland Clinic Toronto, and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Dr. Cosgrove received his medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed medical training at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brook General Hospital in London. He earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts. In 1967, he was a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, serving Da Nang, Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal. Dr. Cosgrove joined the Cleveland Clinic in 1975 and was named Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1989. Under his leadership, Cleveland Clinic's heart program was ranked number one in America for ten years in a row (U.S. News & World Report). He has published nearly 450 journals articles, book chapters, one book and 17 training films. He performed over 22,000 operations and earned an international reputation in cardiac surgery valve repair before his retirement in 2006. He has 30 patents for developing medical products for surgical environments. He has received numerous awards and Inside Business's "Power 100" listing for Northeast Ohio, and is ranked among Modern Healthcare's "100 most powerful people in healthcare" and "most powerful physician executives. Co-Chair - Charles S. Lauer was the publisher of Modern Healthcare for more than 30 years, taking it from a monthly money-losing proposition when Crain Communications purchased the magazine in 1976 to the nation's leading healthcare news weekly. Known throughout the healthcare industry and beyond as a leader, Chuck Lauer is now a healthcare consultant, an author, public speaker and award-winning businessman who is in demand for his motivational messages to top companies nationwide. Mr. Lauer's career includes early success as a retail representative for Life Magazine at Time, Inc., and later as a drug merchandising manager of Look. The consummate salesman, he served as Midwest Sales Manager for two McGraw-Hill trade publications and was general sales manager for the publications of the American Medical Association where he became the AMA's director of communications. He also held various positions with Family Media, Inc. and Petersen Publishing. He is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, Mr. Lauer served in the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean War and continued his postgraduate education at the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Illinois. Keynote - Forrest Sawyer has had a diverse career, first as one of America's most respected television journalists, and more recently as an entrepreneur in innovative health care. Mr. Sawyer is today an advisor and board member of Edison Pharmaceuticals, the world leader in the study of mitochondrial disease. He is also a co-founder of Ampere Life Sciences, a newly launched company developing medical and functional foods targeting antioxidant deficiencies.
